A step-by-step setup procedure for Hardware Configuration

between Siemens PLC S7 and IAI controllers for PROFINET

Version 4 / 01.11.2019

Note: The procedure will be shown with the following devices.

PLC: SIMATIC S7-1200 (CPU 1212C AC/DC/RLY)

Model: 6ES7 212-1BD30-0XB0
Software: TIA Portal V11

1. Parameter setting of IAI controller

IAI controller needs to be set up properly in the parameter setting before starting the Hardware
Configuration of the PLC.
The procedure of the parameter setting in detail depends on the controller model.
Configuration of IAI controller can be done in the PC Interface Software with the communication cable.
The parameters must be set for PROFINET communication as follows. Please refer to the operation
manual for details.

The MANU/AUTO switch on IAI controller should be turned to MANU.

1-1: CON controllers (Example for PCON-CB controller)

PCON-, ACON-, DCON- and SCON controllers

(PCON-CB/CGB/CFB/CGFB/CA/CFA-PRT, ACON-CB/CGB/CA-PRT,
DCON-CB/CGB/CA-PRT and SCON-CB/CGB/CA/CAL/CGAL-PRT)

Parameters 84, 87, 90 and 159 must be changed according to requirements.

Note: The parameter setting above is not same for all controllers. Please refer to the operation
manual for details.

i. Parameter No. 84 (Fieldbus operation mode)

Set the parameter No. 84 to a value between 0 and 4 according to the required operation mode.
This setting is not only for selecting of the operation mode of the controller, but also is important to get
a primary factor of the amount of input and output memory for the PROFONET interface.

ii. Parameter No. 87 (Network type)
Specify the network type in the parameter No. 87.

Note: Do not change the default value.

iii. Parameter No. 90 (Fieldbus I/O format)

By changing of the value of the parameter No. 90, the data of up to 2 words can be swapped in units
of byte before transmission within the range of communication with the PLC’s I/O addresses.

iv. Parameter No. 159 (FB Half Direct Mode Speed Unit)
Select the speed unit for Half Direct Mode in the parameter No. 159.

at the IAI controller.

Ex.) For CON controllers

Operation mode: Remote I/O mode (Parameter No. 84: “0”)
Total number of occupied bytes: 2 bytes (for each IN and OUT)

There is a notification for the I/O module setting. Refer “Note 2” below.

Short instruction for setup procedure of IAI controllers for PROFINET Ver. 4 24/28
Ex.) For MSCON/MSEP/MCON/RCON controllers and RCM gateway
Number of axes: “6”
Operation mode: “Full numeric direct mode (1)” (“Full” or “Direct Indication1”) for all axes

There is a notification for the I/O module setting. Refer “Note 3” below.

Note 2: For CON controllers (PCON, ACON, SCON and DCON)

It is only available to use “1-word-module” for Input/Output.
(Ex. If you need to set 4 words (8 bytes) area, you need to use 4 x 1-word-modules for
the configuration.)

Note 3: For MSCON/MSEP/MCON/RCON controllers and RCM gateway

It is only available to use “4-word-module” for Input/Output.
In the information in the Gateway Parameter Configuration Tool, it shows how many 4-
word-modules (IN/OUT) you need for the I/O configuration in the PLC.

Note 4: You need to set the I/O modules from slot number 1.
If there is a blank slot at the beginning of slot or between modules,
a configuration error will occur.

Note 6: Set the start address of the I/O module, which depends on the PLC specification to suit
your system. Otherwise, a communication error will occur. Double click on each slot,
where you want to modify the I/O address manually.

Ex.) In case of the PLC used in this document

The addresses of "0" and "from 64 to 67" are already dedicated to system use of the PLC.
The I/O address, which is available to use for the slave unit, depends on the PLC type.

Note 7: It is recommended to use the I/O address within the process image area for the
configuration.

After configuration, you will be able to compile the Hardware Configuration and transfer the setting into
the PLC
