Part 2

Background history
For my artist I chose a designer that I absolutely love. I am a
fashion design major so I thought it would be fitting to use a
designer as my artist. I chose Alexander McQueen. He put out
revolutionary pieces. He was known for runway style extravagant
dresses more than anything. He made a point to push the
boundaries of fashion. Putting the fears that other designers had
pertaining to consumers not wanting to buy out of the box designs
to rest. He was an english fashion designer that worked at
Givenchy, but in 2001 he left to focus on his label full time. Raking
in success by not letting any kind of hindrance prevent him from
putting his ideas out into the world.

Designer’s design philosophy and signature
styles
He wanted all of this work to make his clients feel unique and innovative while feeling stylish and pushing the

boundaries, while having their money also go to good causes that helped the community. Some of the fabrics

that are heavily featured in his work include tools, to give a bold look when layered while still staying feminine

and soft. Tool dresses on his website are often paired with combat groups to give the grunge aspect and round

out the look. Pushing boundaries. McQueen did not seem to believe that different aesthetics could not mix

judging by his work. He often mixed contrasting colors and aesthetics to give a unique feel to each of his looks.

His work also seems to recently feature puffed sleeves on dresses that everyday people could wear instead of

just high end clients. The brand uses their unique mentality to put spins on everyday clothing. So that the

everyday person can go through life feeling stylish even if they are not fully comfortable with their wardrobe

being completely avant-garde.
