STORY OUTLINE:-
Little Mrs. Sommers one day found herself………………… would never stop
anywhere, but go on and on with her forever.

SUMMARY:-
This story mentions a day of Mrs. Sommers’s life when she realized
that she has an extra 15 dollars to spend. She thinks that she should spend it on her
children but she just spends it on herself; purchasing the pair of silk stocking is the
first thing that sets the rest of her spree in motion. She buys nice pieces of clothing,
a pleasant lunch, and go to the movie theatre. After watching the movie she uses a
cable car to go home, but wonders that it would not end because she enjoyed all the
day and being independent from her family. Mrs. Sommers’s behavior shows that
she is so annoyed of her family’s financial troubles and her children; she thinks of
here past life before she was married that it was more comfortable. These bad
thinkings about her family, particularly during this period of gender inequality, is a
theme in Kate Chopin’s work.
OPENIONS ABOUT THE STORY
This is a very interesting and fascinating story written by Kate Chopin in which
she delivers the character of Mrs. Sommers who had an extra money that she could
spend on her children instead she becomes selfish and spend it on herself
unfortunately.
The author represents the confidence of Mrs. Sommers who were confident
about shopping for herself and her children as well and she is well pleased that she
has money and she can buy anything she want.
The writer talks about the excitement in which a person have to spend the
money wisely that could help him in his near future. As the writer elaborate this
through the character of Mrs. Sommers who just wanted to spend here money and
she was very proud that she spend the money on useful and long lasting things that
she needed.
The character is very excited to have some extra money to spend. She
doesn’t hang back that she can’t spend this money or things like that. She just
thinks of how and on what she could spend her money and thus waste a lot time by
overthinking.
I think that although she spends the money on useful things for herself but at the
same time she is very self-serving by just thinking of herself she should have spent
the money on her children and should’ve got something for her children and
surprised them which she didn’t do.
Thus it indicates that she is not proud of her family that she has a family to
live with. She discloses herself that she actually is not very happy with her family
if she was then she wouldn’t spend the money on herself she wouldn’t only just
think of herself instead she would’ve spend that on something else.
