A. What are the three relevant pieces of information presented in the

article? (Provide a detailed explanation of each relevant
information)

According to Indigenous and Cultural Psychology, Chapter 5 From

Decolonizing Psychology to the Development of a Cross-Indigenous
Perspective in Methodology (1989) articulates the following three significant
details about Indigenous Research Methods:

 The Indigenous Approach to Participant Observation

The indigenous method to participant observation in Philippines
Psychology focuses on anthropological and ethnographic research with
indigenous populations in the Philippines. It discusses some of the previously
stated Filipino terminologies concerning Philippine social research. Specific
terminology is translated into the Filipino language, making the study more
Filipino-centric and avoiding the use of western methodologies and ideas
deemed unnecessary and inappropriate for the Sikolohiyang Pilipino.
Translations of various Western methods from a Filipino viewpoint with the
assistance of other Filipino psychologists. Several of the following words are
being utilized to collect data on these indigenous people correctly. Numerous
techniques are discussed in the article, including "Informal Visiting or
Dropping in" to dalaw-dalaw, interactive research to Pakikisalamuha,
participant dweller to Pakikipanirahan, frequent visits to Pagdalaw-dalaw,
and Pakikisama, which is classified as the highest level of social interaction
by Ibang-Tao category. Using these approach phrases listed above is
essential in Filipino research methodology since it is more appropriate for
indigenous people. In addition, implementing these approaches for
researchers' study is more beneficial for their analysis, given the findings
they may have obtained from these individuals are legitimate.
 The indigenous Interview
In Sikolohiyang Pilipino, Indigenous Interview referred to Pagtatanong-
tanong, a translation of Asking Question in Western's approach. Since
pagtatanong are a lot common to Filipinos. This method is more practical to
Filipino individuals. Because Filipinos are used to displaying this kind of
Pagtatanong-tanong behavior, many Filipinos employ it while conversing and
sharing thoughts and inquiries. As mentioned in the article (Pe-Pua,
1985,1989), considering few Filipinos are often exposed to interviews, they
are used to Pagtatanong-tanong as a typical occurrence among their fellow
Filipinos. Other than that, pagtatanong-tanong is not just pagtatanong-
tanong itself. For the researcher, For them to acquire answers. They must be
genuinely determined to develop casualness to get answers to their
questions. Between the term "pagtatanong-tanong and Interview." There is
a difference between its definition since Pagtatanong-tanong focuses on the
importance of using indigenous research methodologies that are culturally
suitable without claiming exclusivity for their own culture. Also pagtatanong-
tanong composes of 4 major characteristics. First. It is participative, with
participants contributing to the structure of the encounter by establishing its
direction and managing its duration. Second, The researcher and the
participants are on an equal level, with both sides permitted to ask questions
for about the same amount of time. Third, it is suitable and adaptable to the
circumstances of the group of participants in that it adheres to established
standards. And last, It is compatible with other indigenous research
techniques (Pe-Pua, 1985,1989). Aside from pagtatanong-tanong,
researchers also need to develop a behavior known as Pakikipagpalagayan
ng loob or mutual trust to their participants. The researchers need to earn
the trust and openness of the participants for them to gather the information
they need from them. In addition to pagtatanong-tanong and
pakikipagpalagayan ng loob. De Vera (1976) developed
Pakikipagkuwentuhan, which I shall discuss in Collective Indigenous
Discussion.
 Collective Indigenous Discussion
In pakikipagkuwentuhan, Indigenous Research Method combines
elements of an interview and a debate in a focus group. The distinctive
feature of pakikipagkuwentuhan is the open flow of ideas that results in
analyzable storytelling. Apart from Pakikipagkuwentuhan, ginabayang
talakayan or collective indigenous discussion refers to an indigenous method
that (Galvez, 1988) described as similar to focus group discussion except for
one fundamental element: the participants and researcher jointly decide on
the topic(s) of debate and the discussion's flow. Consequently, the
Ginabayang talakayan is an approach of Collective research is a process in
which members of a group share and exchange information, experience, and
views about a subject they have collectively decided to discuss (Galvez,
1988)

B. What do I know about these pieces of information?

According to my previous research throughout my senior high school
years, I had no idea that the phrases and approach I utilized in our
"Pananaliksik sa Pilipino" had a solid connection to indigenous Sikolohiyang
Pilipino practices. Given that I have previously used the terminology listed in
the first question, I am also acquainted with the following terms presented in
the article. Nonetheless, I have no clue where these phrases came from;
however, upon studying.  These pieces of knowledge that I've accumulated
serve as the knowledge I can use in my future research studies and the
understanding I have collected in this information since I have already
experienced constructing research using the aforementioned methods. More
likely, I understand how effective these methods are when it is applied.

C. What questions do I want to ask about pieces of information in

the article? (Explain your reason why you ask those questions)

Reading the article of Indigenous and Cultural Psychology, Chapter 5

From Decolonizing Psychology to the Development of a Cross-Indigenous
Perspective in Methodology (1989), made me curious how the Philippine
Psychologists construct concepts in creating an effective Indigenous
Research Method. The following are questions that I want to ask regarding
the information stated in the article;

 How did Filipino psychologists come up with the idea of developing

indigenous research methods that would be suitable for conducting
social research in the Philippines?
I'm having thoughts about this concept. In the first place, Sikolohiyang
Pilipino was introduced by Enriquez (1988) to the Philippines. The primary
purpose of this approach is to further relate to the Filipinos without using
western methods?
 Is there any approach that is being used until now?
Given that some psychologists advocate for these ways, I'm curious whether
additional strategies are being applied to our Indigenous research methods
now that our generation is developing and much innovation has occurred?
D. What do I learn from the article?

With the help of the article entitled Indigenous and Cultural Psychology,
Chapter 5 From Decolonizing Psychology to the Development of a Cross-
Indigenous Perspective in Methodology (1989), I have learned information
regarding the concept of Indigenous Research Method, also with the
knowledge that I have obtained can be used to my future research analysis
as a student. Additionally, I can apply this approach to my indigenous fellow
humans. The knowledge I gained will serve as a reminder to continue using
Sikolohiyang Pilipino as an alternative to western methods to honor the
founder of Sikolohiyang Pilipino and other psychologists who have
contributed to this field.
