1.

The system was initially set up as a pilot project in 2014 on the stretch of the Golden
Quadrilateral between Ahmedabad and Mumbai. The system was implemented on the Delhi -
Mumbai arm of the Quadrilateral on 4 November 2014. By April 2016, FASTag was rolled out to
247 toll plazas on national highways across India, representing 70% of all toll plazas in the
country at the time.
2. As per NHAI, FASTag has unlimited validity. 7.5% cashback offers were also provided to promote
the use of Fastag. Dedicated Lanes at some Toll plazas have been built for FAST.
3. I want to represent the data of how much revenue it collected so far The sale of FASTag or
cashless payment mechanism on toll plazas on highways has crossed 10,000 in June 2016. The
monthly transaction through ETC during the month has crossed Rs one crore
4. And Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on 31 October 2019 said that Rs 24,396.19 crore was collected
from fee plazas of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) across the country in 2018-
19.
5. All alone from Tamil Nadu government of India collected Rs 2549.12 crore and record also
belongs to same year 2018-19.
6. I also want to highlight the latest collection of last month October 2021 which is like FASTag toll
collection reaches a record ₹3,356 crore revenue in October 2021 from around 21.42 crore
transactions, reports PTI. The record transactions and higher toll collection come on the back of
increased economic and transportation activities across India, especially during the festive
season.
7. The most important factor of using FasTag which highlighted I would like to share is The usage of
FASTags across national highways, mandated by the Centre, will help save ₹20,000 crore
annually on fuel and boost the country’s revenue by nearly ₹10,000 crore as per the ministry.
8. The government should start expensing most of revenue on improving the quality of road since
collection of fastag is getting high in each financial year so it’s not much harder.
9. Also this year The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) earned Rs 165 on every FASTag in
the first half of 2021, an 8 per cent decline from Rs 179 a year ago, as the Radio Frequency
Identification (RFID) compliance led to a fall in revenue
10. These tags come with a discount and, therefore, adherence to them means less revenue
collection for the NHAI. It collected Rs 15,518.8 crore in toll from January to June 2021, more
than double the previous year’s figure, with 635 million vehicles passing through.
11. As our nation saw two lockdowns continuously so government should also find an alternative in
cases where road movement is off like when roads are on track discount which is been offering
should decrease the amount of discount so that it will cover the loss when roads were off and it
will get balance in sometime.
