In your opinion, had it not included the use of aviation, how would the outcome of the
United States' role in World War II have changed?
Aviation was a very important factor in World War II, from its use in aerial attacks to nuclear
bombings, the success of the United States highly relied on it. The role of aviation in the war was
much more than a weapon, it supported the ground troops, sped up the pace of the war while
allowing the country to fight a two-front war, and boosted the economy. Without the use of
aircrafts, the war would have been lost and the United States would not be the imperial power it
is today.
Aerial support was crucial during World War II because it assisted ground troops who
otherwise would have been out numbered by enemy troops. The presence of aerial support
motivated the ground troops to keep fighting because they knew they had eyes in the sky and
were not alone in the fight. When news arrived that the U.S. was dominating the air, support for
m
the war rose and innovation in the field of aircrafts began to grow. Perhaps one of the most
er as
noteworthy aspects of aviation in the war was that it helped save many lives. Since the aircrafts
co
could coordinate air strikes without being detected by radars this allowed for successful missions

without having to put so many ground troops at risk. In fact, the U.S was the country who

suffered the least number of casualties in World War II with only 420,000 death compared to
rs e
9,000,000 troops lost by Germany and 20,000,000 by the Japanese (Bender, 2014).

The use of aviation in the war also sped up the pace of the war while allowing the U.S. to
fight a two-front war. Without aviation a two-front war would not have been possible because
o
troops would not have been able to mobilize so quick and efficiently. Additionally, the U.S and
aC s
its allies would have been outnumbered by enemy troops without the use of aircrafts. Aviation

gave the allies an advantage over its enemies because the axis powers did not have aircrafts that
could match the power of jets such as the B29 who had “bombing altitudes of 30,000 feet and
above” ((MacIsaac, 2016). Additionally, a nuclear bomb could not have been delivered from
anything else other than an airplane and without the use of nuclear bombs the war would have

World War II was such an immense conflict that it turned the U.S economy into a war
economy. The United States was still recovering from the Great Depression when they were
is
forced to enter the war; unemployment at the time was about 25%, but this began to change
when the U.S economy changed to a war economy and new factories were created to produce
Th
goods for the military. These new factories created new jobs and expanded the traditional job
roles for women since most men were serving in the military. Aviation became a new much
needed industry that grew rapidly and fed a lot of families. By the time the war was over the U.S.
