Forbidden Magic

In my world, something is a bit different than in the normal world. My world has magic in the
air. It’s everywhere and in everyone. We are all gifted with magic based on our main elements.
There are four basic elements: water, earth, fire, and air. After those, we have the secondary
elements. Usually those who have secondary elements as their main tend to be stronger than
those with only the basic elements as a main. The secondary elements consist of light and dark.
Lastly, there’s the forbidden element. It’s said that the last family that had this magic was
murdered, because of the fear, anger, and jealousy of others. Blood magic. Those who main in
blood magic were able to utilize all the seven elements. They craved to have that power, because
it could literally kill anyone within seconds. Those mages were known as The Phantom. They are
distinguished by their pitch black eyes that have been corrupted by the hunger for power.
I’m Atlas Sozrareth and I’m the last blood magic user. I’ve been orphaned since I was seven
years old. My parents were murdered in front of me. In my home. The Phantom broke into my
home while we were asleep. My parents should’ve been able to defeat them easily, but there
were too many and of course, they fight dirty. They don’t fight fair. They used every trick in the
book to weaken my parents, to make them vulnerable. As my parents hid me with a spell, I
watched in horror as they were killed in front of me. Those pitch black eyes. I can never forget
those eyes. They haunt me till this day. I vowed to never reveal my blood magic. No one can
ever know.
From that day, whenever I would have magic lessons, I would only practice the other six
elements. I never told my last name. I go by Atlas Serena. Fortunately, in the orphanage I had
some friends. Cordelia is a water main. She’s usually the peacekeeper of the group, whenever
trouble starts. Leon is a light main. He’s usually crazy energetic. Sometimes I wonder where he
gets all that energy and sometimes, I see a glimmer of light shining in his eyes. Is it just me? Our
little trio was more than I could ask for as best friends. My teacher at the orphanage was also
very kind. Maggie and her husband Elliot always believed that every child was special. They
believed that everyone was destined for great things. For all these years, they’ve been the one
teaching all of us how to use magic. Maggie was a light main and Elliot was a dark main, so they
were both able to teach the six elements together. Obviously, since I vowed not to show anyone
my blood magic, I’ve only improved very little ever since my parents trained me. I’ve learned
some spells, like healing, and some others that I’d rather not include, because they’re rather
disturbing, since it’s the nature of my magic. For all those years I’ve been learning to perfect the
six elements along with my own in secrecy. Fortunately, I excelled in the other elements, so I
didn’t have much of a hard time. Maggie and Elliot just thought I was gifted with either light or
dark magic, but they never were able to decide, because I’m equally good in both.
Soon I’ll be 18, and a legal adult. I won’t be able to live in the orphanage anymore. I was able to
save up some money from some jobs I worked, so I could get on my feet.
Later that evening Maggie called me to meet her and Elliot in their office. I thought I might’ve
been in trouble, and of course my best friends had to tease me, asking me what I did. I tried to
shrug them off, because I seriously didn’t know, so I just went to the office. As soon as I entered,
I asked if I had done something, but they say nothing. They just smile at me excitedly. I asked
them if they were okay, and Maggie immediately had an enthusiastic tone in her. “You’ve been
offered a scholarship to Aeonian Academy of Magic!” I immediately froze. I was shocked, and
happy at the same time. I immediately tell her to confirm it, and there it is! My name in a
scholarship to Aeonian Academy! I immediately hug them both, thanking them for all their help
and guidance throughout the years. I was so excited to tell my friends, I couldn’t wait!
I soon found Cordelia and Leon in the garden and broke the news to them. They were so happy
for me, but I could see a bit of sadness in their eyes. I asked them what’s wrong, but they tell me
they’re just happy for me. I knew they were both lying. I asked them if they were angry at me.
They just responded with a sigh and explained that although they were happy for me, they were
going to seriously miss me, since everyone knows that to get to the academy, you go through a
portal which only let through the ones with their name on the list of students, otherwise the
magic wards will seriously injured those who try to force entry.
