Girl Education was never considered necessary in the previous time. But over the period of time
people have realized the importance of a girl’s education. It is now considered as the awakening
of girls in the modern era. Women are now competing with men in all the spheres of life. But
still, there are people who oppose girl’s education because they believe that a girl’s sphere is
at home and also, they think that it is wastage of money to spend on a girl’s education. This
thought is wrong as girl education can bring an uprising in the culture.
There are a lot of advantages involved in the education of girls. A well-educated and grown-up
girl can play an important role in the development of the country. An educated girl can share
the load and burden of the men in different fields. A well-educated girl if not forced to marry
in her early age, can serve as writer, teacher, advocate, doctor, and scientist. She can perform
very well in other important fields too.
Education is a boon for girls in this age of economic crisis. In today’s time, it is really difficult
to meet both the ends in a middle-class family. After the marriage, an educated girl can work
and help her husband in bearing the expenses of the family. She can also earn if in case her
husband expires and there is no helping hand in the family.
Education also broadens the thought of the women; thus, it helps in the good upbringing of
her children. It also gives her the freedom of thought to decide what best is there for her and
the family.
Education helps a girl become economically independent while she knows her rights and women
empowerment which helps her to fight against the problem of gender inequality.

The world today is facing various complex diseases. Out of them, obesity is one. Obesity is a
condition wherein a person starts to gain unnecessary body fat. This is an excessive and abnormal
increase in body fat which can lead to various other related health issues like heart problems,
blood pressure, hypertension, cholesterol, and many more. Some people think of obesity as only
a cosmetic and physical concern but that’s not true.
The lifestyle of people has changed a lot. Instead of focusing more on physical activities, there
has been a paradigm shift to adapting non-physical activities. Children used to play in parks and
playgrounds with friends whereas now the preference has been shifted to mobile and computer
games. Not only children but also elders have changed their lifestyle a lot. Previously, people
preferred to do everything by themselves. Right from doing household chores to getting things
from the market, everything was done manually. But time has changed a lot. Now, everything
gets delivered at the doorstep. This type of lifestyle has led to various diseases including obesity.
Additionally, obesity is even caused due to genetics as well. Some people have heredity or
have genes that force them to gain weight faster as compared to others. Also, there are some

medications like those consumed by bodybuilders (steroids), antidepressants, and medicines for
diabetes that make changes in the body metabolism in such a way that the appetite increases
resulting in gaining weight. Some people are couch potatoes and foodaholic which means they
can’t stay away from food. Under such a situation the appetite increases and the chances to fill
oneself with junk food enhances. This kind of habit positively increases the chances of becoming
obese.
Ever-increasing cases of obesity are surely a cause of concern, but there are various cures
available to treat it. Also, not every treatment is related to medication or surgery. Some of the
treatments are such that are related to changes in diet and adapting to physical activities. Eating
a healthy, fibrous, and nutritious diet can help reduce that excess weight. Also not munching
in between and following a diet routine can help to cure obesity.
Secondly, by doing some physical activities like walking, jogging, running, or exercising one
can also burn unwanted fat and calories, thereby reducing obesity. There are various drug
therapies as well as surgeries like bariatric surgery that can help reduce the weight. The drug
therapies can be long term as well as short-term depending on the weight to be reduced. But

The Thief Story
The Thief’s Story is written by Ruskin Bond. The story is about a young fifteen-year-old boy,
Hari Singh who befriended people in order to rob them. One day, he met Anil during a wrestling
match. Anil was a twenty-five-year-old man who was leading his life casually. He was a struggling
writer who would make small money with his writing prowess. Hari flattered Anil by trying to
befriend him and asked him for some work.
Anil asked Hari if he could cook, to which the young boy replied affirmatively. Hearing this,
Anil took him to his room and promised to teach Hari how to read, write, add numbers and
cook delicious meals. Sometimes, Anil would give a rupee to Hari as a tip for his efforts. One
fine day, Anil received a bundle of notes for his published articles. He kept the money under his
mattress and Hari happened to notice this. During midnight, when Anil was fast asleep Hari
stealthily slipped his hand and stole the money kept under the mattress. He immediately left
for the railway station to board a train to Lucknow. Unfortunately, he missed the train and
wandered across the streets. As it was pouring heavily, he got drenched completely.
Soon, Hari began to feel agitated and was regretful for stealing money from an honest man like
Anil who treated him so well. He felt guilty for cheating Anil who taught him how to read and
write his name and add numbers. Suddenly, Hari Singh had a change of heart and he decided
to return to Anil. Although the notes had become soggy due to rain, he kept the money in the
same spot from where he retrieved it. The following day, when he woke up, he found Anil was
normal as usual. The young man offered Hari fifty rupees and said that he had rightfully earned
it. Anil further said that he would pay Hari regularly. However, when Hari touched the money,

SECTION A : READING (10 Marks)

Q. 1. Read the passage given below.

(1) Have you ever failed at something so miserably that the thought of attempting to do it
again was the last thing on your mind?
(2) If your answer is yes, then you should understand that you are not a robot. Unlike robots,
we human beings have feelings, emotions, and dreams. We are all meant to grow despite
our circumstances and limitations. Flourishing and trying to make our dreams come true
feels great when life goes our way. But what happens when it does not? What happens
when you fail despite all your hard work? Do you stay down and accept defeat or do you
get up again? If you tend to persevere and keep going, you have what experts call ‘grit’.
(3) Falling down or failing is one of the most agonising, embarrassing, and scary human
experiences. But it is also one of the most educational, empowering, and essential parts
of living a successful and fulfilling life. Did you know that perseverance (grit) is one of the
seven qualities that has been described as the key to personal success and betterment in
society? The other six are curiosity, gratitude, optimism, self-control, social intelligence,
and zest. Thomas Edison is an example of grit for trying more than 1,000 times to invent
the light bulb. If you are reading this with the lights on in your room, you will realise the
importance of his success. When asked why he kept going despite hundreds of failures, he
merely stated that they had not been failures, they were hundreds of attempts towards
creating the light bulb. This statement not only revealed his grit but also his optimism
for looking at the bright side.
(4) Grit can be learnt to help you become more successful. One of the techniques that help is
mindfulness. Mindfulness is a practice that makes an individual stay at the moment by
bringing awareness of his or her experience without judgement. This practice has been

used to quieten the noise of fears and doubts. Through this simple practice of mindfulness,
individuals have the ability to stop the self-sabotaging downward spiral of hopelessness,
despair, and frustration.

on what you did, and try to use those same powerful resources to help you today.
