1 INTRODUCTION
ATTENTION
The Upgrade Tool option is available only if the user logging on to Configuration Studio is a
member of the Product Administrators group. You can use the Upgrade Tool on the nodes
which are on R400.1 or a later release. For more information, refer to the Experion
Upgrade Tool User’s Guide .
Until R501.1, site-specific migration guides could be generated only on Experion nodes using the
Upgrade Tool.
Starting with Experion R501.1, a new tool is introduced to generate site-specific migration guides
on non-Experion nodes. The new tool - Experion PKS Upgrade Instruction Management Tool is
available on the Experion PKS Upgrade Tool Components media.
You can generate site-specific migration guides for the following migration paths.

CHAPTER
Component-level migration guides: With R410.1, Experion PKS Upgrade Tool Components media
contains component-level migration guides that are added to the available set of the scenario-
specific migration guides. The component-level migration guides provide the procedural details to
migrate a component from a base release to the target release. These component-level migration
guides are provided in the Experion PKS Upgrade Tool Components media and are converted by
the Upgrade Tool to generate the site-specific migration guides. You must refer to the site-specific
migration guide while migrating from the base release to the target release.
Site-specific migration guides (R400.x, R410.x, R430.x, R431.x, R432.x and R500.x to R501.x):
For migrations from R400.x onwards, you can generate a site-specific migration guide using the
Upgrade Tool. As per the site configuration, the Upgrade Tool combines the migration guides
available on the Experion PKS Upgrade Tool components media for the nodes/modules in the
Experion cluster. This document is automatically generated by the Upgrade Tool.
Each document describes a single supported migration scenario. This document is available in the
Experion PDF Collection media.

Chapter 3 - New features in Experion PKS UpgradeTool Components media
Starting with R501.x site-specific migration generated from Upgrade Tool or Upgrade
Instructions Management Tool allows you to add custom text. In addition, a check box is available
on each page which can be used as a checklist to indicate the tasks completed and the tasks
remaining.
The Experion PKS Upgrade Tool Components media contains component-level XPS
documentation required by the Upgrade Tool and Upgrade Instructions Management Toolto
generate a site-specific migration guide for migrating to R501.x. The Upgrade Tool can combine
the component-level migration guides at the site as per the site configuration depending on the
nodes detected at the site. It merges the required component-level migration guides and creates
the site-specific migration guide. The site-specific migration guide is available in a XPS format. The
XPS format is available in C:\Program Data\Honeywell\Experion PKS\Upgrade
Tool\Data.
The site-specific migration guides are available only as XPS (XML Paper Specification) documents.
The XPS viewer is provided to view these XPS documents. The Microsoft Windows 10 Enterprise
2016 LTSB (x64) and Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Standard (x64) operating systems support
the XPS viewer. For servers, XPS viewer is enabled during operating system installation using
Experion PKS System Initialization media. For client, XPS viewer is enabled automatically.
l Enabling XPS viewer
The XPS document opens through Internet Explorer on Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows
Server 2003, and Windows Server 2008 operating systems. The XPS document opens in a stand-
alone XPS viewer application on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 operating systems. The
display of the content varies accordingly whether it is opened through Internet Explorer or XPS
viewer application.
If the XPS viewer option is not enabled during installation, perform the following procedure.
ATTENTION
This option must be enabled to view the upgrade instructions.
