Examination:

1. What is the Minimum Marks required to pass the First Year PUC and
Second Year PUC examination?

A minimum of 30 marks in each subject and an aggregate of 35% of marks


in that part is a must to pass First Year and Second Year PUC examination.
Example:
A minimum of 70 Marks in part-I Language-1 30
Language-2 40
Part-I Total 70
A minimum of 140 Marks in part-II Subject-1 30
Subject-2 30
Subject- 3 30
Subject- 4 50
Part-II Total 140

Grand Total 210 out of 600 Marks

2. What is the minimum marks required to pass in Science theory


and practical examination?

A minimum of 24 marks out of 90 in theory and a paper minimum of 30


including practicals out of 100 and an aggregate of 35% in part II.
However Minimum marks in practicals is not fixed. Practical exams will be
conducted only once. Whatever the marks one gets out of 10 in each science
practical subject shall be carried for further examinations till the candidate
completes the examination.
Example:1
A student obtains 24 in theory out of 90 and gets 06 out of 10 in
practicals in a science subject but gets 140 out of 400 in four subjects.
He/ She gets through the examination.
Example:2
A student obtains 23 in theory out of 90 and gets 10 out of 10 in Science
practicals and gets 140 out of 400. The candidate does not pass as
he/she has not got a minimum of 24 out of 90 in theory.
Attendance :

1) What is the minimum attendance necessary to appear for


the examination?

A minimum of 75% of attendance of the total classes conducted


in individual subjects is compulsory

2) Who has the power to condone the shortage of attendance?

No one has the power to condone the shortage of attendance

3) Can a Student who has shortage of attendance appear for


supplementary examination to be conducted subsequently?

No. He / She can’t. Students are advised to be vigilant about the same.

4) What should students who have shortage of attendance do to appear


for subsequent examination?

They should get readmitted to the concerned class in the


subsequent year and study.
They should have 75% of attendance as stated above.

Text books:

1. Has the Department Prescribed textbooks in core subjects?


Yes, the Department has Prescribed NCERT Text Books, Lab Manuals
and exemplar problems in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology
subjects for I PUC from the Academic Year 2012-13.
The Department got NCERT Text Books in PCMB for I PUC in Englsih
Medium translated in to Kannada Medium by PU College Lecturers. The
Kannada version of the text books is under the process of printing. The
books will be released in the second week of June-2012.

The Department has obtained copyright permission to print these


Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology Books under the heading of
Commissionerate of Pre-University Education. These books are printed by
ARKBIRD Publication, Hyderabad and published by The Karnataka Text Book
Society ®, Bangalore. These Text Books have four model question papers in
each subject with blue prints and scheme of valuation. This will help the
students to comprehend the content and help in better performance. These
books have been released and will be available in the open market from
18.05.2012 onwards. Students willing to persue science in I PUC must buy
these text books. There are no other text books prescribed by the
Commissionerate except the text books mentioned in the following table.

2. Does the Department plan to prescribe text books in other subjects also?
Yes, the Department proposes to prescribe text books in Arts, Commerce and
other Science subjects from the Academic Year 2013-14 for I PUC. It shall also get all
these text books prepared in English Medium in core subjects translated into
Kannada Medium and prescribe the same.
