Disciples of Sachen Kunga
Nyingpo for whom His
Eleven Commentaries
on the Precious Lamdre
Teaching Were Composed
Among the innumerable disciples of Sachen Kun-
ga Nyingpo, there were eleven for whom he com-
posed a complete Lamdre teaching. These eleven
commentaries and the disciples for whom they were
composed are described in the Lamdre Kokpup-Lek-
shi Dupa Gyatso by Sakyapa Ngawang Kunga Sod-
nam.
Sachen Kunga Nyinpo’s first commentary was
composed for the disciple Aseng, who was the first
to request the Lamdre teaching from him. The title
of the Lamdre commentary composed for him was
Asengma.
The second commentary was composed for the
disciple Shuje Ngudrup. The title of the Lamdre
commentary composed for him is Shujema.
The third commentary was composed for the son
of the noble family Chudrak from Lokja. Therefore
the title of this Lamdre commentary is known as
9
Great Sakya Women
Lokja.
The fourth commentary was composed for Sachen
Kunga Nyingpo’s first consort, Machig, the mother
of his oldest son, Kunga Bar. She was a daughter
of the Tibetan royal lineage. After her son Kunga
Bar passed away, Maching became interested in
spiritual things, and she received the Hevajra and
Chakrasamvara empowerments from Sachen Kunga
Nyingpo. Especially for her, he used Chakrasamvara
as a creation practice, with the completion practice
according to the Lamdre Hevajra. The commentary
on the Lamdre teaching that was composed for her
is known as Yumdonma (For the Mother).
Sachen Kunga Nyingpo wrote the fifth commen-
tary for his sons Sodnam Tsemo and Jetsun Drakpa,
and for his heart disciple Nying Purjongwa Tsuktor
Gyalpo whose common name was Sodnam Dorje. Be-
cause it was written for these three sons it is known
as Sedunma (for the sons).
The sixth commentary was composed for the
Bodhisattva Dawa Gyaltsen, who received the
Bodhisattva Vow from Kunga Nyingpo. Dawa
Gyaltsen transmitted the upasika vow to Kunga Ny-
ingbo’s two sons. Kunga Nyingbo composed for him
the Lamdre commentary known as Dagyalma.
The seventh commentary was composed for his
disciple Sangri Pupa, and it is therefore known as
Sangripukma.
The eighth commentary was composed for the
nun from Mankar known as Mangchongma, and so
it is also known as Mangchongma. Another source,
“History of the Precious Lam Dre Teaching” provides
more information about Mangchongma.
Mangchongma was one of the seven chief disci-
ples of Sachen Kunga Nyingpo who were considered

A Short Account of the Life of
Jetsun Chime Tenpai Nyima
Jetsun Kunga Tenpei Nyinma, who lived some three
hundred years ago and who is one of the Vajrayo-
ginī lineage gurus. She was an outstanding master,
and was in turn the guru of many masters— mostly
Sakya, but from other schools as well. She was the
teacher of many Khön Dungseys and of many great
khenpos.
Jetsuma Chime Tenpai Nyima is among the
lineage Masters of ‘Parting from the Four Attach-
ments’, and of many profound dharamas such as the
profound guidance of Vajrayoginī.
Her father, Thutob Wangchuk, was the younger
brother of Sachen Kunga Lodro. Her mother was
Tashi Yang Chen, the daughter of a Chag Zampa
landholder family. She was born in the Fire Mouse
year of the 13th Rabjung cycle, which is 1756, and it
was on the 22nd day of the 11th Tibetan month.
The name of her youth was Chime Bu Tri. In the
year of the WaterTiger (1782), and in the 25th Khen-
po of the Great Temple, Jampa Chokyi Tashi gave

Great Sakya Jetsunmas
There have been very great female Sakya practi-
tioners ever since the very early days of the lineage.
Many were Jetsunmas—daughters of the Khon fam-
ily. Some of the stories of those that I knew or heard
the stories of are recounted below.
