Pandemics
• The COVID-19 is the next in a long line of pandemics that
have shaken the world. Diseases and illnesses like the
Spanish Flu, Zika, Cholera, Smallpox, the Bubonic Plague
and Black Death have all wreaked havoc on societies and
killed millions.
• The earliest recorded pandemic in history was in 430
B.C., Athens.
• In 1918, the Spanish Flu claimed a dark spot in the
history books.
What is Covid-19
• Human coronaviruses were
first identified in the mid-
1960s they are a family of
viruses that can cause deadly
diseases in humans and
animals. Covid-19 is one of the
diseases caused by a new
coronavirus.
Clinical Features
• The symptoms of covid-19 are Hotness of the body, cough
and difficulty or shortness of breath. These symptoms are
similar to the flu (influenza) or the common cold, which are a
lot more common than COVID-19. This is why testing is
required to confirm if someone has COVID-19.
• Other symptoms of covid-19 include; body pain, recent
abnormal smell or taste, runny nose(cattarh), watery stool
etc

HOW TO PUT ON, USE, TAKE
OFF AND DISPOSE MASKS

• Firstly recognise that if you are using face mask(s) of whatever kind for the
first time, know that there may be some discomfort especially in hot
environment. Also consider resisting the temptation of touching or adjusting
the face masks, with consistent and correct use, the discomfort will soon
disappear.
• Before putting on a mask, clean hands with alcohol based hand rub or soap
and water.
• To remove the mask: remove it from behind (do not touch the front of the
mask); discard immediately in a closed bin; cleans hands with alcohol based
hand rub or soap and water.
• Note that if you use a cloth mask, it show be thick enough to absorb and
light enough to allow you breath.
