1.

FOUR TIMES

Write the numbers from 2 to 6 into the empty circles (other than that
containing the number 1; one number in each circle).
In the four rectangles, the result of the addition or multiplication
of the two numbers on either side of the operation sign must always be
the same.

2. CLEVER RABBITS

Clever rabbits always lie, and all other rabbits always tell the truth.
Alice observes a round table around which 5 rabbits are sitting. Each of
them looks at his two neighbors and says: "I am sitting between two liars".
Alice cannot tell which rabbits are clever, but she can tell how many of
them are clever. How many clever rabbits are there around the table?

3. THE PIZZERIA

Identical square tables and chairs have been delivered for Luigi's new
pizzeria. If Luigi wanted to keep all the square tables separate, each
of them with 4 chairs around it, then he would be missing 3 chairs.
Instead, he groups all the tables two by two in order to form 5 rectangular
tables, each with 6 chairs around it. How many extra unused chairs does
he still have?

4. THE QUIZ

A is circled: A:2 B:0 C:1 times in the frame

B is circled: A:0 B:1 C:2 times in the frame
C is circled: A:2 B:1 C:0 times in the frame

On each of the three lines, circle one of the letters A, B or C

in the frame so that all three answers to the quiz are correct.
For example, if the letter C is circled on the first line, then
the letter A must be circled exactly once in total.

5. THE SQUARE

Carine made a square shape, without any hole, by assembling pieces identical
to that shown on the picture, without reflecting them or overlapping them.
What is the minimum number of pieces she used?

6. SEE YOU NEXT YEAR

This year's number, 2017, has the following properties:

- if one adds 1, then the result is divisible by 2.
- if one adds 2, then the result is divisible by 3.
- if one adds 3, then the result is divisible by 4.
What is the next year with these three properties?

7. THE SCALE

A 20 gram mass and the letter J balance perfectly with a 17 gram

mass and the letter M. The four letters together weigh 35 grams.
How much do the two letters F and M together weigh, in grams?

8. THE DRONE

The four propellers of a drone each trace out a circle centered on

a vertex of a quadrilateral frame. Along each edge, the two circles
touch in one point.
The radii of the circles, expressed in centimeters, are consecutive
integers. Two edges of the quadrilateral which meet in a vertex have
lengths equal to 20 and 17 centimeters.
What is the radius of the circle centered at this vertex, in centimeters?

9. GUESSING AGE

Agathe's age has exactly six integer divisors, including 1 and itself.
The product of four of the divisors is equal to 72, the age of
Agathe's grandmother Mathilde. What is Agathe's age?

10. LINEAR PENTOMINOS

A pentomino is a planar figure formed by assembling 5 unit squares attached

to each other by their edges, so that squares sharing an edge always touch
along the entire edge. A pentomino is said to be linear if one can trace
a single straight line passing through the interior (not just a vertex)
of each of the 5 unit squares. A pentomino and its mirror image count
as two if they cannot be superimposed without reflection.
How many linear pentominos are there?

11. THREE TIMES THREE

Tristan used nine different digits two write three 3-digit numbers whose
sum is equal to 2017. Two of the numbers are divisible by 11. What is the
third number?

12. THE BRICKS

Thomas begins a game with a single stack of 27 bricks from his construction
set. At each round:
- either he splits a stack in order to obtain two smaller stacks, of which
one must contain exactly twice as many bricks as the other; for example he
can obtain 18 and 9 after the first round;
- or he merges two stacks containing arbitrary numbers of bricks to make
one larger stack.
Thomas stops playing once he obtains five stacks all containing different
numbers of bricks. If one of the five stacks contains 7 bricks, then what
is the number of bricks of the largest stack?

13. THE RUGBY BALL

The cross-section of a rugby ball consists of four circular arcs connecting

tangentially at their end points. It has two symmetry axes, one horizontal
and one vertical.
The cross-section fits exactly inside a rectangle of dimensions 30 and 22
centimeters. The small arcs at the left and right have a radius of
10 centimeters. What is the radius of the two large arcs at the top and
bottom, in centimeters and rounded to the nearest integer if necessary?

14. THE NUMBERED TETRAHEDRON

The numbers from 1 to 10 must be written into the circles of the picture
(one in each circle). Along each of the five visible edges (solid lines),
the sum of the three numbers (two vertices and a midpoint) is always
equal to 20. What is the product of the three numbers in the gray circles
on the dotted (hidden) edge, given that their sum is equal to 17?
15. THE FLAG

The flag of Fort Maths is a rectangle measuring 2 meters (horizontally) by

1.2 meter (vertically). Starting from any point strictly inside the
rectangle, one draws line segments connecting it to successive points that
lie 40 centimeters apart along the perimeter of the rectangle. The triangles
and quadrilaterals thus formed are then colored in an alternating pattern of
white and gray.
The total amount of gray area exceeds the total amount of white area; the
difference between these is exactly one hundredth of the total area of the
rectangle.
Starting from the top-left vertex and going horizontally to the right,
what is the distance (in centimeters, rounded to the nearest integer if
necessary) to the first change of color (from white to gray) ?
The picture is not exactly to scale.

16. CHRISTMAS BALLS

The diameters of five spherical Christmas ball ornaments are respectively

3, 4, 6, 7 and 9 centimeters. Nicolas stores them by placing them, in the
order of his choice, in a cylindrical box of diameter 9 centimeters, which
he then closes with a lid parallel to the base and in perfect contact with
the last ball.
The balls fall down and lie in contact with each other or with the base of
the box, but it is not forbidden for a ball to have space to move inside
the closed box if one flips it upside down.
The height of the box is an integer amount of centimeters. What is it?

17. THE WIZARD OF HIC'S BIRTHDAY

The Wizard of Hic is celebrating his 41st birthday with a special trick.
Starting with 41, he asks each member of the audience to add 2N if he or
she is the N-th to respond.
The results obtained in this way are all prime numbers, i.e. divisible
only by 1 and themselves: 43, 47, 53, 61, 71, etc.
What is the maximum number of people in the audience?

18. POINTS AND CIRCLES

The nine points in the picture are evenly spaced. A first circle passes
through four of the points. A second circle passes through four other
points. How many circles passing through two or three of these eight
points also pass through the ninth point?
