FOUR TIMES
Write the numbers from 2 to 6 into the empty circles (other than that
containing the number 1; one number in each circle).
In the four rectangles, the result of the addition or multiplication
of the two numbers on either side of the operation sign must always be
the same.
2. CLEVER RABBITS
Clever rabbits always lie, and all other rabbits always tell the truth.
Alice observes a round table around which 5 rabbits are sitting. Each of
them looks at his two neighbors and says: "I am sitting between two liars".
Alice cannot tell which rabbits are clever, but she can tell how many of
them are clever. How many clever rabbits are there around the table?
3. THE PIZZERIA
Identical square tables and chairs have been delivered for Luigi's new
pizzeria. If Luigi wanted to keep all the square tables separate, each
of them with 4 chairs around it, then he would be missing 3 chairs.
Instead, he groups all the tables two by two in order to form 5 rectangular
tables, each with 6 chairs around it. How many extra unused chairs does
he still have?
4. THE QUIZ
5. THE SQUARE
Carine made a square shape, without any hole, by assembling pieces identical
to that shown on the picture, without reflecting them or overlapping them.
What is the minimum number of pieces she used?
7. THE SCALE
8. THE DRONE
9. GUESSING AGE
Agathe's age has exactly six integer divisors, including 1 and itself.
The product of four of the divisors is equal to 72, the age of
Agathe's grandmother Mathilde. What is Agathe's age?
Tristan used nine different digits two write three 3-digit numbers whose
sum is equal to 2017. Two of the numbers are divisible by 11. What is the
third number?
Thomas begins a game with a single stack of 27 bricks from his construction
set. At each round:
- either he splits a stack in order to obtain two smaller stacks, of which
one must contain exactly twice as many bricks as the other; for example he
can obtain 18 and 9 after the first round;
- or he merges two stacks containing arbitrary numbers of bricks to make
one larger stack.
Thomas stops playing once he obtains five stacks all containing different
numbers of bricks. If one of the five stacks contains 7 bricks, then what
is the number of bricks of the largest stack?
The numbers from 1 to 10 must be written into the circles of the picture
(one in each circle). Along each of the five visible edges (solid lines),
the sum of the three numbers (two vertices and a midpoint) is always
equal to 20. What is the product of the three numbers in the gray circles
on the dotted (hidden) edge, given that their sum is equal to 17?
15. THE FLAG
The Wizard of Hic is celebrating his 41st birthday with a special trick.
Starting with 41, he asks each member of the audience to add 2N if he or
she is the N-th to respond.
The results obtained in this way are all prime numbers, i.e. divisible
only by 1 and themselves: 43, 47, 53, 61, 71, etc.
What is the maximum number of people in the audience?
The nine points in the picture are evenly spaced. A first circle passes
through four of the points. A second circle passes through four other
points. How many circles passing through two or three of these eight
points also pass through the ninth point?
