5. YUATOL 10. ECNHALCIT WRGAIND

8
What is It

Let’s now proceed with the lesson! The following section will provide you with a brief
discussion of the lesson. This will help you discover and understand new concepts
and skills. Let’s do this!

FLOWCHARTS

A flowchart is a diagram. It is composed of different shapes and arrows. These are

commonly used in programming for visualizing computer algorithms. These are also
used in different fields. These provide a visual approach to the communication
process. Flowcharts are also known by the names of the process map, functional
flowchart, business process mapping, business process modeling, and notation, or
process flow diagram.

BASIC SYMBOLS

Flowcharts are made up of different symbols such as rectangles, diamonds, and

arrows. Each symbol represents a step or a process. The following are the basic
shapes used in flowcharts.

• Oval – represents the start or end of a

process. This is also called the terminator.
This symbol should be used at the start and
the end of the flowchart.
• Rectangle – represents a step in the process.
This is used to show a simple step or basic
tasks in the process.
• Arrow – represents the flow of the process. It
serves as a guide to indicate the flow of the
process.
• Diamond – represents a decision. Whenever
a diamond is seen in a flowchart, this means
it requires a decision that is commonly either Tax Flowchart by Fawzi Sdudah
yes or no. The next step depends on the
decision that has been chosen.

SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM

A schematic diagram is a picture used to depict a

circuit, or other objects, using symbols. It
represents the components of a process, device,
or object using symbols and lines. The symbols
and lines in a schematic diagram are often
standardized. Schematic diagrams are commonly Adsl Filter Schematic
by JPI of Wikimedia
used in circuits.

9
BLOCK DIAGRAMS

A block diagram is used to represent control systems using graphics. Block

diagrams, as the name implies, uses single block or combinations of blocks. Block
diagrams are consisting of the summing point and the take-off point.

LAYOUT PLAN

A layout plan or floor plan is a drawing that depicts the layout of a property or an
area. The layout is based on the top view of the area. It consists of walls, windows,
doors, stairs, and fixtures.

TECHNICAL DRAWING

A technical drawing, also called engineering

drawing, is a detailed and accurate graphical
representation of how to construct or how an object
functions. This is commonly used in construction
or repairing buildings. Technical drawings also
apply to different equipment or objects. This shows
what the parts consist of and how to build them to
create the object. Technical drawing serves as the
bridge between designers, producers, and 2D Technical Drawing by Kris Moreno
implementers.

10
A technical drawing may comprise two-
dimensional plans, sections, and elevations. 2D
or two-dimensional plan provides a flat plane
shape. It has length and width. A technical
drawing can also have three-dimensional or
exploded projections of objects. A 3d or three-
dimensional plan has length, width, and height.
3D Technical Drawing by Frank Hull
Unlike 2d drawings, a 3d drawing has thickness
or depth.

MATERIALS FOR CREATING A TECHNICAL DRAWING

Technical drawings can be made using pencil and paper. It can also be drawn using
computers, this is called computer-aided designing. In creating technical drawings
using pencil and paper, the following materials are needed:

• Mechanical pencil – a pencil with replaceable and extendable lead. This is used
to provide lines of the same width without the need to sharpen the lead.
• Technical pens – a type of pen used for making lines with constant width for
architectural, engineering, or technical drawings.
• Rulers – usually made of plastic or steel. It allows you to draw straight lines
and easier to work on different scales.
• Compass – a tool used to draw circles, arcs, or parts of a circle.
• Drawing boards – a scaled plastic board designed specifically for technical
drawing. It is used to draw parallel lines easily and precisely.
• Erasers – a tool used to remove graphite marks from drawing sheets.
• Sharpeners – a tool used to sharpen a pencil’s writing point. It shaves the way
the worn surface of a pencil.
