DISTRIBUTION AND LOCATION OF A PLANT

By: Ing. J. Daniel Aguilar Moreno

What is an industrial Plant?
Locations or clusters with machinery and devices
to do determined activities, for example raw
material transformation in order to create
products and energy.
Sectors
 Primary sector: is the economic sector that is responsible
for the extraction and acquisition of raw materials. That
is, it extracts natural resources to be used for
consumption or industry.
 Main activities:
1. Farming.
2. Fishing.
3. Cattle raising.
4. Forestry.
5. Mining
Sectors
 Secondary sector: is the industry sector that transforms the
raw material, extracted or produced by the primary sector,
into consumer products or capital goods; the secondary
sector executes industrial procedures to transform these
resources
1. Constructions
2. Industries
3. Energy
4. crafts
Sectors
 Third sector: is all economic activities whose purpose is the
production of the services demanded by the population. For
that reason it is also known as the service sector.
1. Transportation
2. Tourism
3. Communication
4. Commerce
5. Education
6. Entertainment
Types of industrial plants
• TEXTILE INDUSTRY: It is the name given
to the sector of the economy
dedicated to the production of
clothing, fabric, thread.

• AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY: It is
dedicated to producing vehicles. This
industrial activity uses materials
provided by other types of industries
like metal-mechanical, steel, glass
and plastics.
Types of industrial plants
• FOOD INDUSTRY: is the part of the industry
in charge of the elaboration,
transformation, preparation, conservation
and packaging of food for human and
animal consumption

• PETROCHEMICAL INDUSTRY: the industry that uses

petroleum or natural gas as raw materials to
obtain chemical products. Petrochemical is the
extraction of any chemical substance from fossil
fuels. These include fuels such as methane,
butane, propane, gasoline, kerosene, diesel, jet
fuel, pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, and other
sustains like plastics.

TRANSFORMATION FACTORS

By: Ing. J. Daniel Aguilar Moreno

What are transformation factors?

Factors that Industries

need to create
products and services,
these are necessary for
all industries and the
way these are required
is different for every
factory..
Transformation factors
✓ Workforce:

 Refersto the "Work of hand or

hands", which makes more
sense if it is said that the works
are executed by people, their
physical and mental effort
makes products, services and
capital goods.
Transformation factors
✓ Machinery:

 Is a set of mobile and fixed

elements, machines or
devices whose operation
transforms energy or works
with a specific purpose. It is
called the set of machines
that are applied to the same
device, work or product.
Transformation factors
✓ Material :
A material is an element that can
be transformed and grouped into
a set in order to create a
product, service or capital goods
A material is a substance
(chemical compound element)
with some useful property, be it
mechanical, electrical, optical,
thermal or magnetic.
Transformation factors
✓ Energy:

 Energy is defined as the ability

to do work, to produce
movement, to generate
change. It is inherent in all
physical systems, and life in all
its forms is based on the
conversion, use, storage and
transfer of energy.
Transformation factors
✓ Equipment:
 Industrial equipment is the
collection of devices, supplies,
facilities or furniture necessary
for the creation of an
effective man-machine
system. These tools are not
part of product or capital
good but are necessary for
process.
Transformation factors
✓ Process:
 An industrial process is a
set of activities that are
made to convert the raw
material into a final
product.
 Process follows a
chronological steps and
norms to be finalized.
Activity
 Determinate plastic
injection Industry and
investigate its factors:
 Workforce
 Machinery
 Material
 Energy
 Equipment
 Process
