1. Objective
Show the preliminary calculation of wires and cable tray necessary for feeding the power electrical
loads installed along the conveyors of coke handling facilities of SINCOR. This information will be
useful for checking the necessary space and supports required for the cable tray in the conveyor and
specially in the tunnel under “Troncal 9”.

2. Description
The Coke handling facilities include several conveyors as indicated in drawing 4467-1-11-20-02.
Otepi-Foster Wheeler is responsible to design the electrical distribution system to those loads.

Electrical power supply to these loads will come underground from the SS# 3 via cable trench to a
junction box installed besides transfer tower # TT-101. From this, a cable tray system installation will
be utilized. Load values for motors and other devices were estimate and supplied by FW in a
preliminary way to OTEPI as indicated in letter dated May 3, 1999 attached.

All motors or loads will have an individual feeder, controlled and protected from proper switchgear at
SS# 3. No starters in field are required.

Cable type for underground layout is three cores, cooper, armored, insulation xlpe and lead sheath
with outer PVC jacket. Cable type for aboveground layout will be three cores, copper, armored type
XLPE/PVC/STA/PVC. The outside diameter for sizing the necessary cable tray was taken from Gorse
catalog, as it is the preferred vendor. (Copy attached).

Calculations has been made with information provided by FW in drawing 4561-4-70-30-001 Rev 1,
which contains impedance and current capacity values for cable, motor parameters and voltage drop
design criteria. Results of calculations are attached.

The sump pump at the tunnel of “Troncal 9” are assumed to be at 5 m away of conveyor and
respective cable tray. Distance from the SS#3 to junction box at TT-101 are assumed at 300 m
considering actual underground layout.

Control wiring like pull cords, zero speed switch and like will be separate in another cable tray.
Lighting will be also in a separate channel with special boxes to do the necessary derivations for each
fixture.

3. Analysis of results
It’s possible to see in the tables, that practically all feeders are selected to meet the criteria of voltage
drop during starting of the motor or minimum size according with job specification. It’s also good to
note that current capacity (underground or aboveground) of the cables is always higher than minimum
necessary.

Calculation shows that the motor for CR-104 will require a multiple parallel feeder with three 240 mm2
size cables.

Calculation includes a 20% spare space for future expansion, according with the point 6 of FW-OFW
meeting notes of June 16, 1999.

4. Recommendations

Based in calculated size of feeder for motor of conveyor CR-104 and data from ABB motor
catalog, we can assure that a special junction box will be required, external to the motor box.
