Activity # ____ Electro 1, 1st Sem. 2021-2022

Topic: Alternating Current vs Direct Current
Learning Outcome:
Explain the difference between a DC from an AC current and voltage in terms of their
relationship
Date: 23/11/21 Section: BSME- 1 ALPHA
Score: Time: 11:32
Name Kio Joriz P. Hernandez
Remarks

Research and define the following:

1. Single Phase AC circuit.

a. Alternating Wave
- one that varies in both magnitude and direction in more or less an even
manner with respect to time
b. Amplitude
- The maximum value of current or voltage is known as amplitude. It can be
represented by either of the since wave's two peaks.
c. Alternation
-  is about expecting some difference of similar waves' expression inside a
pattern by depth, complexity, and duration. Alternation happens inside
impulses and corrections.
d. Frequency
- is the measure of the rate of that oscillation and is measured in the number
of changes per second – also called hertz (Hz). A generator running at 3,000
rpm, with two magnetic poles, produces electricity at a frequency of 50Hz.
e. Instantaneous Value
-  is the induced voltage or current flowing at any instant during a cycle.
f. Time period
- is the amount of time it takes for a voltage or current to complete one cycle in
seconds.
g. Average Value or DC value.
- The average of a full-wave rectified sinewave is about 0.637 of the peak
value and the RMS is about 0.707.

h. RMS value (Root Mean Square) or effective Value.

- is the effective value of a varying voltage or current. It is the equivalent steady
DC (constant) value which gives the same effect.
i. Fundamentals of the sinusoidal Wave.
- The sine or sinusoidal wave is a curve that describes a smooth repetitive
oscillation. We can define the sine wave as “The wave form in which the
amplitude is always proportional to sine of its displacement angle at every
point of time”.
