Warm-up and Objective Discussion


Warm-up
 Ask students to name countries they know. Show world map and tell them to point which parts
of the world those countries are
 Show the world map and ask students where Brazil is in the world map
 Ask them which language does people in Brazil use? (English, Spanish, Portuguese..) give
them options and ask them to choose
 Ask students if they know anything about Brazil and teacher show some unique aspect of
culture of Brazil (football, carnival festival, Amazon rainforest..)

Objective Discussion
 Tell students what they will learn in lesson today (listening to a woman talking about moving
to Brazil, listening for answers to “why” questions and being able to talk about opinions)

Pre-teach Vocabulary
 Students have an exercise of matching the pictures to the words (4-5 words) on handout and
teachers will read out correct answers.
 Ask students to read out loud to check for pronunciation

Listening
 Tell students we now will listen to a woman talking about moving to Brazil. Tell them to listen
for words like why and because to understand why something happens. Give them example
“Why do you study English? I study English because I like to travel”
 Tell students to listen for details and answer the multiple choice questions in their book and
then send their answers to chat only function on Zoom
 Students listen and circle
 Teachers ask the class for answers and check the answers.
 Give feedback and correct pronunciation.

Guided Practice R W L S
Guided Listening
 Tell students they are going to listen again and answer the comprehension questions on the
book. Ask them to read the questions first
 Students listen again and fill the words given in the blank
 Check answers with class.

 Pair students by zoom breakout room function and let students practice speaking these
sentences with correct answers. To prevent passive work, tell students that teacher will choose
2-3 peers to speak in front of class after 5 minutes
 Tell 3 students to speak out the sentences
 Give feedback on pronunciation

Speaking
Tell students we will learn some ways to express our opinion. (I think that……..I feel that…….
In my opinion………In my view……..I like) + because to give our reason why we think like that.

 Share the link to the sample sentences of expressing opinion. Tell students that they can use
them in the next exercise
 Ask a student to join with teacher for an interview. Teacher tells student to choose one of the
questions in the link document “What food do you like?” Teacher says I like … because….
and…..
 Teacher then asks that student “What sports do you like” and tells students to give 2 reasons
why they like that sports

Guided Practice R W L S
Guided speaking
 Give students sample sentences and ask them to use it.
 Tell students now we are going to have peer group activity. Ask them to pair with a partner
and take turn to ask each other question and answer it using the “express opinion phrases”
that teacher has given. Teacher reminds students that teacher will call randomly 3 groups to
speak in front of class about the questions in the google docs link and students have to
express their opinion using phrases given.
 Teacher then uses Zoom breakroom feature to give them space to talk to each other.
 Monitor
 Call randomly 3 groups
 Give feedback and correct pronunciation

Independent practice R W L S
I think boardgame
 Tell students now we are going to have a board game activity. Ask them to pair with a partner
and share with them the board game where they will in turn express their opinion based on
cue. (Speaking a.fun b.boring..) I think speaking is fun because ……..
 There are 6 opinions in total. Each student will choose 3 opinions and take turn to express
their opinion. Tell students teacher will call 6 students randomly after 10 minutes
 Monitor
 Call out random students
 Give feedback and check their pronunciation
Assessment R W L S
Students choose one of the questions in the link teacher send and record a video of them expressing
their opinion and giving reasons why they like/think that. Students then send their video to teacher on
Microsoft Teams.

Teacher will give feedback in the next class
