Faith and Resilience amidst Pandemic and Natural Disaster

The year 2020 has brought a lot of challenges to every single citizen of the Philippines. Surviving
through hunger, sickness, pandemic, the onslaught of typhoons, and poor crisis management for
months on end is, once again, being lauded as a show of resilience in our country. Also, faith to our
Almighty God made these sufferings weigh lighter.
Philippines have seen multiple number of disasters that made every Filipinos helpless, homeless,
and cried for help, and this year is not an exemption to that. Filipinos suffered numerous problems
starting from the first quarter of this year until its end. Taal Volcano activities affected most of the
people residing near the lake and the volcano. Covid19 pandemic started in latter part of March, and
started to hold community quarantine throughout the nation. Bicol Region, on the other hand, suffered
the consecutive arrival of strong typhoons, which washes away homes, and even lives. Strong quakes
jolts Masbate and surrounding areas. The extreme Northern Luzon also suffered widespread flood that
destroyed the crops and their homes.
But, amidst all of this, Filipinos have always prided themselves on their resilience: enduring
moderate to strong scale earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and typhoon after typhoon. They were able
to bounce back immediately after a hardship, all the while offering help and warmth to other people.
Their strong faith to God is what keeping them together and to continue from living.
The faith and hope to recover and stand again after the fall is what keeping them from moving
forward. Faith also washes away their tears of grief and anxiety. It enlightens them to see the needs of
others and encourages them to move beyond their comfort zone, and releases them from individualistic
tendencies. This pandemic and natural disasters have opened our eyes to many great lessons in life. It
has taught us to reassess the value of life itself, our health, and even the way we choose our leaders.
Overcoming these struggles has made everybody stronger than before, making them more resilient than
ever, and became faithful and hopeful that everything will go back to normal. And despite enduring
many upheavals, Filipinos have always overcome them through their faith and their resilience.
