Laboratory Exercise 3

Plant Cell Structure

Introduction

All living organisms consist of one or more cells. The cells are the basic unit of structure and
function because all of the characteristics and processes associated with life, like growth and
reproduction, are first encountered and manifested at the cellular level of biological organization. The
kingdom Plantae includes organisms such as mosses and ferns as well as cone bearing plants
(Gymnosperms) and flowering plants (Angiosperms). All plants are multi-cellular and sustain themselves
by the process of photosynthesis. Most plants have distinct organs and tissues consisting of different cell
types.

Objectives

To identify and differentiate the structures of the cell from the observed images.

Materials/Equipment

Paper
Pen
Laptop/Desktop/Mobile Phone
Internet Connection

Instruction

1) Using the internet, search for images of Plant Epidermal Cell, Cytoplasmic Strand, Amyloplast,
Chromoplast, Guard Cells and Chloroplast. Make sure the image is clear and not pixilated.
2) Draw and label the image using LPO and HPO in the answer sheet.
3) Answer the questions provided in every item as indicated in the answer sheet.
4) Submit your laboratory activity sheet before the deadline and upon submission convert the file
into PDF format.
