Top Students/Top Parents Team Charter

Statement of Purpose
Our purpose is to help Kathleen, our client, generate an audience for her book so it can reach the
most people as possible. This will be done through social media platforms and a press release
before her book is published to get eyes on the book.

Team Core Values

Transparency: The team should always be aware of what other members are working on and how
their work is improving the project.
Communication: Communication is of the utmost importance throughout this project, to avoid
any confusion about what the client expects from the team and what the team will deliver to the
client.
Punctuality: Each team member is expected to pull their own weight and stay on top of any
upcoming tasks or assignments that are designated to them.

Team Member Expectations

Division of Workload
The workload will be distributed according to each member’s ability and willingness to perform
a task. If a team member is drawn to a certain task and feels capable of accomplishing it, they
may receive priority in taking that task.

Expected Mode/Frequency of Communication

The team will primarily communicate through GroupMe, an app for group texts. When
communication with the client is necessary, the team leads will facilitate that communication
through emails.

Acceptable Quality of Work

Generally, we are looking for work that will make the team and the client happy. If any questions
are raised regarding the quality of one’s work, each team member can review the work during a
meeting.

Acceptable Structure for Giving/Receiving Feedback

The team will give and receive feedback as necessary, whether through emails, GroupMe, or
Microsoft Teams. When giving feedback, it is important to keep good criticism at the forefront.
When receiving feedback, it is important that any criticisms are not taken personally. We’re
aiming to improve the deliverables we are designing without attacking the members responsible.

Due Dates and Presentations

In general, work should be turned in before the next meeting with a client so we have a
deliverable we can display. If we don’t have something we can show the client each meeting, we
have failed the client.

In regard to presentations, each team member is expected to attend every presentation. To

prepare for presentations, presentation material will be uploaded to Microsoft Teams for the
group to discuss and study. If there are any issues with attending a presentation or meeting,
notify the rest of the team through GroupMe so everyone is aware and can get prepared.

Team Members’ Core Competencies

Brooke Tapia
As an Early childhood major and someone who is currently working with children, I am able to
take on task that may come as a surprise and handle difficult situations really well.

Dylan Emerson
As a Game Design major, I can handle a lot of the techier issues we may come across. I’m also
capable of looking at things from an outside perspective to help solve issues.

Emily Llamas
I am an Inclusive Early Childhood Education Major with the hopes of running my own at home
daycare one day. I am familiar with social media and am willing/excited to learn anything I need
to in order for us to be successful.

Conflict Resolution Strategy

Conflict Between Team Members:
Step 1 Identify/clarify the issue between team members. What is being disputed?
Step 2 Explain each other’s perspectives. Why is one person more right than the other?
How can we come to a compromise? This allows each team member to vocalize their
concerns and try to come to an agreement.
Step 3 If the team members involved cannot come to a compromise, the issue will be
brought to the entire team to vote on the issue at hand as a team.
Step 4 If after the conflict has been brought to the entire team and the entire team is
unable to resolve the conflict, then the team may bring the issue to the client to get the
client’s input if the conflict is related to a deliverable.
Step 5 If the conflict still cannot be solved, faculty assistance may be needed.

Disagreements Between The Team & The Client

Step 1 Identify the issue between the team and the client. What appears to be the issue?
Step 2 The team and the client will dig deeper into the problem to get a better
understanding of what the conflict is and how to solve it, with the client’s expectations at
the forefront.
Step 3 If the conflict isn’t solved between the team and the client after the previous steps,
further assistance from faculty may be necessary to come to an agreement.
Failure to Follow Team Member Expectations
In general, any failure to follow team expectations will result in a meeting, whether that meeting
be with a team lead or with faculty.
Team Member If a team member is failing to meet team expectations, that team member
will meet with the co-leads to find out what is going on, why there is an issue, and how
we can solve it. This may lead to moving the team member to a different deliverable or
some other consequence if necessary.
Team Lead If a team lead is failing to meet team expectations, the two co-leads will have
a one-on-one meeting or a meeting with the rest of the team as necessary to figure out

why the team member is failing to meet expectations. This may lead to moving the team
lead’s focus on other deliverables or some other consequence if necessary.
Unresolved Conflict If the team cannot come to an agreement, faculty assistance may be
needed to get involved to get their input and how to solve this issue. If more conflict
persists after a faculty meeting, and the team member’s actions are negatively impacting
the team, the team may have to enforce the BI firing policy.

BI Firing Policy
If a team member is not performing as stated in the team charter after the first 2 weeks, the
team must go through the following steps:

1. Team Meeting 1 (meeting must be documented, with notes recorded)

a. A meeting should be organized where all members are present, and the team
follows the dispute/issue resolution strategy from their team charter.
b. The team must come up with at least one strategy for improving the situation
over the next week. (The success of this strategy needs to be measurable)
c. All of the members of the meeting must understand that this is an Issue
Resolution Meeting.
2. Individual Meetings with Faculty
a. After step 1 has occurred and team members still feel that a team member should
be fired, they are to set up individual meetings to speak with a faculty member.
b. Individual meetings will allow us to hear each student’s perspectives without the
students being influenced by others.
c. All members should meet with a faculty member
d. The meeting notes from Team Meeting 1 must be supplied to faculty when
arranging the meeting.
3. Team Meeting 2 (meeting must be documented, with notes recorded)
a. The team must come up with at least one different strategy for improving the
situation over the next week. (The success of this strategy needs to be
measurable)

b. All of the members of the meeting must understand that this is the second Issue
Resolution Meeting.
4. Written Explanation of Issue submitted to Faculty (This should be written by the team
leader unless the team leader is the individual who is being fired, in which case another
team member should write up the explanation.)
a. Submit written and signed explanation of the issue and at least 2 steps taken to
resolve the issue. Example of possible steps may include:
i. Identifying why work is not getting completed and development of an
alternate plan
ii. Specific deliverables required to be submitted by a specific deadline
5. Formal meeting with faculty present
a. Specific objective steps agreed on by Faculty and team will be developed that
must be completed over the next week in order for the team member in question
to stay on the team or determination of other next steps.
6. Team member fired
a. No alternate assignment will be given
b. The team member will receive an F in the course
