Q. Recently, more and more people use the internet to get information and buy goods. What do you
think about the advantages and disadvantages of this phenomenon?

It is argued upon the inclination of the people towards the usage of internet for their basic needs
i.e. groceries, luxurious items and information such as news updates. Even though people can
acquire knowledge and purchase items manually, they prefer to obtain it through the medium of
internet. However, there are some obvious positive as well as negative outcomes to it and, this essay
shall delve deep into both its fruitfulness and shortcomings in detail.

Firstly, due to ample information available on the internet, individuals find it more convenient. In
other words, it is easy to find data on any particular topic which is known to humankind on the web
as it is a virtual treasure trove of information. For example, one can easily get access to thousands of
e-books and articles which are published and, hence, obtainable on this platform. Secondly, when it
comes to online shopping, advances in technology, payments and demand for convenience has
further given way to consumers who want more choices when it comes to electronic purchasing. For
instance, Amazon is a widely used online application where one can order goods online as it fulfils all
the demands and gives a sense of relief to its customers in terms of making transactions and the
quality of goods. Therefore, the trends are more in favour of the internet due to the ease provided
to its users.

On the other hand, the over utilisation of the internet has made people often more lethargic as
everything is made available to them on their doorsteps. To be more precise, humans have become
prisoners in the hands of technology as it carries adverse effects along with positive outcomes. For
instance, it has drastic effects on the eyesight of the people for the reason that people are now more
active in cyberspace than ever before. The other major negative outcome is fraud which is taking a
toll on the users of online banking. Additionally, people become more prone in terms of sharing their
personal information such as name, address and credit card number which may further be
troublesome. All in all, there are certain disadvantages to using the internet which may create
hindrance in the lives of the people.

To conclude, not only the internet has the potential to make life simple and suitable but also wreak
havoc. Consequently, with clever use, individuals can manage to harness their unlimited potential.
