The Reading Well

This page is run by Michael Bates who introduces himself as a parent, a teacher, a Political
Scientist and until recently, a federal bureaucrat in Ottawa for the Department of Public
Works. It is a site made to help parents and teachers to avoid wrong starts and bad
diagnosis. He states that it is a happy moment when dyslexia is finally diagnosed, because
that is the moment when your child can start understanding why are things happening the
way they are.

Michael also tells his own story as someone who knows dyslexia first hand. He has a step-son
who is good at sports, but used to struggle reading, and the so-called experts could not help
his son’s problem. He explains their whole adventure of finding the right method for his son.

The website not only offers a good explanation and a handful of advices, but also interesting
facts, programs and tests. The website also deals with dyspraxia, dysgraphia and dyscalculia.
