What to learn

> Learning objectives

– The advantage of Designer BLM

– Key feature provided in Designer BLM

> Moldex3D version

– All Moldex3D Designer BLM product

> Recommended user

– All Moldex3D Designer BLM user

3
Introduction
What is Designer BLM Mode

> BLM mode is an embedded application in Moldex3D Designer

> Provides advanced auto and semi-auto meshing functions
> The main difference between BLM Mode and eDesign Mode
is the solid mesh type
> Supports 3D CAD data

5
Why Designer BLM Mode

> Ultimate Goal of BLM mode

– Make the process of generating BLM become simpler
– Easier to learn for users who have no experiences in
generating BLM

> Target customers of BLM mode

– Users who complain about long duration and inaccuracy of
analysis, but feel too complex to apply current BLM
processes
– Provides a simpler workflow of creating BLM for existing
BLM users

6
What is BLM(Boundary Layer Mesh)?

BLM
Both with Boundary layers and inner layers

Boundary layer: One, two, or more layers of prism mesh

Inner layer: Tetra mesh

7
What Can BLM Do?

BLM
Captures:
• Strong shear thinning effects
• Viscous heating effects

Enhances the accuracy of:

• Viscous heating result
• Pressure result

Improves:
• Warpage/deflection prediction

8
Support of Moldex3D Modules

10
Features and Benefit
BLM Generator

> Automatically creates boundary layer mesh

12
Benefits of BLM Mode

> Ease of use

– Workflow similar to Moldex3D eDesign Mode
– Short learning curve

> High resolution mesh

– Boundary-fitted mesh
– Fine mesh for viscous layer

> High accuracy prediction

13
What BLM Mode Bring?

> Functionality
– Boundary layer mesh generator
– Manual repair tool for surface mesh repairing

> Integrated command

– Minimize user operations
– One button to generate solid mesh for whole system

> Easy to design change

– Less effort to change gate location

14
Integrated Command

> One button to generate solid mesh

for whole system
> Efficiently minimize user operations

Part Runner Gate Cooling System

Solid mesh (BLM) Hybrid runner Gate refinement Mold base solid mesh

15
Easy Design Changes

> Less effort to change gate location and modify runner

> One button to regenerate solid mesh for whole system

1. Original runner system mesh 2. Delete original runner system

3. Build a new runner system 4. Generate new runner mesh

16
Mesh Generation
Automatic Node Seeding

> Automatically seed with defined global mesh size, and

Easily generated successfully
– Default size: about 2 times of average thickness

By tool of thickness display, the average

thickness of NB cover is 3.59mm.
Therefore, the default mesh size of size
seeding is 6.53mm in R14 version.

Auto-display the element count

and required computer memory

18
Manual Node Adjustment

> Support to manually adjust node

distribution after auto-seeding
> When it face circle, there will be at
least 6 points at whole circle.

Before Adjust

type setting

After Adjust
19
Surface Mesh Fixing Tools

> Auto Fix Wizard

– Guide to fix multiple surface
mesh defects step-by-step

> Auto-updated mesh information

– After applying fixing tools, the table
will be automatically updated

20
Designer BLM Supports Up to 5 Layers BLM

> In BLM parameter setting, the mesh type option is up to 5

layers for all attribute, include cavity, part insert, runner
and cooling channel.
> Enhance analysis accuracy by increasing mesh
resolution in thickness direction without extra effort and
any quality concern.

●: default setting; ◎: supported option

- R13: 2 Layers, offset 0.3
-R14: 3 Layers, offset 0.4
21
Non-matching Mesh
> Support non-matching mesh topology on the contact
faces between part and part insert
> Benefit
– No need to match the contact face mesh so making the mesh
for part insert becomes easier and less time consuming

Matching Mesh Non-Matching Mesh

22
Non-matching Mesh
> Support full analysis items including F/P/C/W
– Continuous temperature distribution cross the
non-matching mesh boundary
– Continuous deformation cross non-matching
mesh boundary
Cooling analysis / Temperature Warpage analysis / deformation

23
Non-matching Mesh
> Support Fluid Structure Interaction (FSI) analysis

24
Conclusions
Conclusions

> Designer BLM provides a simpler workflow of boundary

layer meshes creating and enable to apply for complex
modules prediction.

> Custom high mesh layers using enhance analysis

accuracy, and auto-mesh repair upgrade mesh operations
rapidly and completely

> Non-matching mesh technique of Moldex3D Designer

BLM greatly enhance multi-components
development and application
