Goals for Course

I think the assignment we did about why literacy is so important in our own disciplines was

really eye opening. I would like to do more assignments like that, where our own discipline is

included in the discussion because as we learned, this doesn’t only concern English/Language

Arts. However, I think this upcoming project we have going is also beneficial because we are

seeing how literacy works in other disciplines. I have an idea how literacy for social studies

looks like, but I barely have a clue how it looks like for math or the sciences.

Personally, I think it's hard for me to get students involved in the literacy aspect of social studies.

History in general is a lot of reading due to it being the primary sources we have. And I would

just like to know how to implement readings in a way that they are beneficial and interesting to

the students. It's something that's bound to happen because not all of history had artifacts that

survived so we have to rely on these readings. This course is only getting started and I have

already learned so much but there is a lot more left to learn. I hope to get a better grasp on

literacy and how to implement it in the classroom. I also hope to better understand the students in

ways to get them to understand the material themselves. There is just a lot to cover and I hope we

can get through it.
