Alexander Hamiliton

Summary
1. Subject: US History
2. Topic or Unit of Study: Alexander Hamiliton
3. Grade/Level: 10th/11th
4. Standards Met:
- HS.H2.1 Explain multiple causes of conflict.
- HS.H2.2 Analyze approaches to conflict management and resolution.
- HS.H2.3 Evaluate the short- and long- term impacts of conflicts and their
resolutions.
5. Objective: Students will be able to identify the founding fathers of the United States and
address what they have done for this country. Students will also be able to identify the
causes of multiple conflicts during America’s formation years.
6. Time Allotment: 2 day - 50 mins each

Implementation
Learning Context:
Students will learn about Alexander Hamilton and his contributions to the United States not only
regarding the American Revolution but as well as his later ideas such as the national banks.
Students will learn which ideas stuck and if he was able to build a foundation for what we now
know as our American Government.

Procedure
a. Anticipatory Set
- Students will watch an opening video to Alexander Hamilton:

b. Direct Instruction
- Students will be presented with a slideshow lecture.

c. Guided Practice
- Students will follow the lecture by filling out ‘fill in the blank’ notes
d. Check for Understanding
- Teacher will check for understanding by assigning students a short essay to
answer what they thought was the most important thing Hamilton did vs. what he
most known for.
e. Independent Practice
- Students will create their own dramatization of a famous event from Hamilton’s life.
They will team up to create said event to check for understanding on how they
interpreted the event. Students will present to the teacher.
f. Closing
- The closing will contain another video, the musical Hamilton on Disney+. It will just
be a fun review to prepare students for their assessment.

Differentiated Instruction
a. Visual Learners
- Much of the lecture and activities will be visual based such as watching videos,
etc.
b. Auditory Learners
- Since most of the lecture is video based, students will be able to listen to the
videos and teacher as the lecture goes on.
c. Kinesthetic Learners
- Majority of this lesson is videos, however students will have an opportunity to
work together for hands-on activity and act things out.
d. ESL Students
- ESL students will be given a link to the same videos with either
translation/captions of their native language.
e. At-risk Students
- At risk students will be able to complete their work in the classroom and have an
extended amount of time to complete said assignments.
f. Advanced Learners
- Students will turn in a two page long essay choosing which event Hamliton did
was the most important and which event he is most known for. They will defend
their reasoning on why that should be the event he is most known for and how it
shaped the United States as we know it today.

Assessment
Students will finish off the lesson by completing a test. This test will be focused on Hamilton and
his contributions to the United States as well as events surrounding his life. Students will also be
quizzed on some other founding fathers to see if they remember the differences between each
one. The test will only take about 30 minutes to complete with the majority of the answers being
multiple choice and the others being short answers.
