CONSUMER DECISION MAKING

Describe three types of consumer buying decision behavior and name typical products for which
each type of consumer behavior is used.

i. Routine response behavior. Frequently purchased, low-cost goods and services are generally
associated with routine response behavior. For example typical product is toothpaste, soft
drinks and gasoline.

ii. Limited decision making. Limited decision making typically occurs when a customer has
previous experience but it unfamiliar with the current brand available. For example typical
product is books, clothing and home furnishings.

iii. Extensive decision making. Consumer practice extensive decision making when buying
unfamiliar, expensive product or an infrequently bought item. Buying a home or car, for
example. Requires extensive making.
