The bar chart below sheds light on how much people in several ages of Britain

donated money to charity in the period from 1990 to 2010.

It is clear that a greater proportion of British people gave money to charity in 1990
than in 2010 except for people who were over 50 years old. Additionally, teenagers
were responsible for the lowest donation both 1990 and 2010.

In 1990, the age from 36 to 50 accounted the highest amount of giving money,
which reached to over 40%. Only 17% of the 18-25 age – group in Britain made
charitable donations, and this is the lowest on the chart. In 2010, the figures had
dropped significantly to 35% and 7% respectively. The volumes of donating
money from the 26 to 35 age- group as well as experienced a moderate decrease
from approximately 30% to 24%.

Turning to people from 51 to 65, they increased slightly from 35% to 65%. About
the figure for people who over 65 was lower than this, which reached to 32% and
raised to 35% in 2010.

Some people think that art is an essential subject for children at school while
others think it is a waste of time.

Discuss both views and give your opinion

There is no doubt that art can play an indispensable role in the overall development
of a child. Although some people believe that art in their curriculum is not worth
their time, I would argue that it is a vital subject that enhances children learning
experience.

On one side of the argument, there are people who argue that the benefits of art as
an academic subject considerably outweigh its disadvantages. It is possible to say
that art can enhance different soft skills such as patience, improved motor ability,
hand-eye coordination. It is also helps shy children to express their emotions
directly. One good illustration of this is that children express their love and
emotion for their parents by creating a hand-made present, a card by using their
creativity, provided they had learned this art at the school level. Moreover, art
allows children to unwind because they have to concentrate on academics, they
need to relax to balance their life. Hence, if these skills are not taught at school, it
may hinder the overall development of children.

On the other hand, people often argue that art is just a waste of time. People often
have this opinion because kids are very much pressurized by so many different
tasks or extracurricular activities, thus parents may want to teach only what could
be fruitful in the near future for the children. For instance, a kid takes lessons on
mathematics, science, karate and swimming, as a result, any less important area
may make an extra burden on the tiny shoulder. Moreover, many children lack of
talents about art so they have to performance gap between the gifted and the non-
gifted, which sometimes may be an extra work for the children. And they also feel
bored with subject they do not interested.

From my point of view, both arguments have their merits. However, to balance, I
believe that art should be an optional subject at school.
