THE LIFE

CYCLE OF A
BUTTERFLY
By: Lama Grade 7
INTRODUCTION
All butterflies go through a life cycle. The life cycle process can take to about as short as a month

or as long as a year, depending on the type of butterfly. A butterfly has four stages in its life, with

each stage being different. The first stage is known as the egg stage, its when the female butterfly

lays eggs. The second stage is larva, mostly known as caterpillar. The butterfly forms into a

caterpillar once its hatched. The third stage is the chrysalis, that is when the caterpillar is done

growing, and starts forming into a butterfly. The fourth and final stage is the Imago. That is when

the chrysalis opens and the butterfly finally comes out. Now the butterfly is finally matured, and

has become and adult.

STAGE 1:
In the first stage a female butterfly lays

eggs. A butterfly starts out first as an egg.

The butterfly lays the egg on to a leaf. She

makes sure to lay them really close together.

The eggs are extremely small and round.

About five days later that the eggs were

laid, a small wormlike creature will hatch

from the egg.

STAGE 2:
The second stage is called larva, mostly

known as the caterpillar stage. A caterpillar

is a long creature that looks like a worm.

Once the caterpillar hatches it gets hungry,

then immediately starts to eat leaves, and

flowers. They eat all the time. At first they

eat the leave that they were born on. This is

called the eating and growing stage.

STAGE 3:

The third stage is called

the chrysalis. This is

when the caterpillar is

done growing. When

the caterpillar is done

growing it will form a

STAGE 4:

In the fourth and final

stage is when the chrysalis

opens. This is when the

butterfly comes out. Its

wings are damp and soft.

The wings are folded

against its body. At this

CONCLUSION:
➤ In conclusion, I learned that all butterflies go through a life cycle. They have four different

stages in total. Each stage has a different goal. I learned that when, a butterfly becomes an adult,

its called a metamorphosis. Also that the life cycle process can take about a month to a year,

depending on the type of butterfly.

The toad TOAD:
symbolizes Winnie’s freedom. At the start of the novel
Winnie talked to the frog discussing her desire, to run away. At the
