Observation Notes

Teacher: Corey
Course: Math 20 -1
Class time: 8:20 am - 10:10 am

How Corey starts his class:


● Start off by letting them know what they’ll be working on for today’s
class.
● Is funny, starts off welcoming students to his classroom.
● Music playing in the background.

Instructs plans/ Class agenda:


● Hand steps/agenda written on the white board.
● Goes through examples with the students on the smart board.

Scaffolding Techniques:
★ Walks students through the math questions they have been working
on.
★ Asks students questions (about their math problems) for them to
answer.
★ Colour coding things = so students can see the changes he is making
to the question/ equation.
★ Has notes on Teams.
★ Has answer keys on teams for students to check their own work.
★ Stands up at the front desk and allows students to come to him if they
need help.
★ Corey walks around and checks on his students
★ Bends down to get to their level to help them with their question.
★ Uses technology (ipad) to help students learn.

Class Management Techniques:


➔ Keeps good class control by a strong, medium voice.
➔ Tells students to “shhhhh”. (quiet down)
➔ Not many (or NONE) students talk while Corey is talking.

● Has worksheets for students to complete.
● Has notes on Teams.
● Has answer keys on teams for students to check their own work.

Comments Corey Makes:


➢ “I am just trying to demonstrate that we all make mistakes”.
➢ “Anyone have any questions?”

Notes:
➢ Has work/ study time for students to use to complete their work and
study with each other.
➢ Has music playing at a low volume but the classroom is low enough
that you can still hear the music.
➢ There is a “funny” student in Coreys class that walked in late and
purposely asked Corey how his morning was while Corey was giving
direct instruction to the whole class.
➢ Some students are on their phones, playing games.
➢ Students walk in and out of his classroom, but no chaos is
happening.
