Palawan is a beautiful province. It boasts an array of wildlife, unique species of plants and animals, and many enchanting and wonderful natural scenic spots, rare wildlife and plant life, narrow coastal plains and pristine white beaches characterizes Palawan. Such beauty may be attributed to its unique geographical. Palawan is in itself a chain of Island and islets lying along the northwest margin of the Sulu and china seas. It appears like a long land bridged extending 75 kilometres from north to Borneo on the soul and Mindoro on the north. Whatever Palawan’s Shape is it is truly a paradise of Nature which continuously lures tourists with it natural wonders and beauty among these wonders are its Flora and Fauna. The Island of a variety of tree and plant species forest covers 45% of the province total land area. This is more than any other major Island in the Philippines. The Philippines has a thousand species of wildlife and 232 of these species inhabit in Palawan. Many of which are rare and endangered thus, the province is referred to as the ‘’wide Island zoo’’ of the pacific and Haven of the Rare Philippine Wildlife’’. Palawan is also a home to several species of birds 206 species are found in the forests and shore of the Island and its islets. Such bounty and beauty of nature is a genuine source of pride of its people. THE THREATS AND PROGRAM The major threats to mangrove forest include population explosion, conversion to aquaculture ponds, clear-felling for timber, charcoal and wood chip production for industrial and urban development. Mangroves provide essential habitat for thousands of species.
