Reflective Essay – Job Analysis

Based on the video, a company conducts a job analysis to study the tasks, duties,

and responsibilities of a specific job. What I observed is that job analysis is significant for

a company so that they can efficiently hire a person with the necessary skills and abilities

needed. I discovered that if the job analysis is unclear, then the person applying for the

job may not be as competent and knowledgeable on what to do.

The process of doing a job analysis should be thorough and accurate so as to

clearly identify the outcomes, skills, and training required. Different job analysis methods

were also mentioned such as: observation, interviews, surveys, work samples, critical

incident techniques, and pre-designed questionnaires. Through these various methods, I

learned that a company can better evaluate what is required for a job and how that job

can progress in the long run. To add to that, it also establishes a clear and meaningful

distinction among job titles present in a firm.

Lastly, as mentioned in the video, having a clear job analysis paves way for

important outputs such as a job description, job specification, job evaluation, and

performance criteria. It is also an important input for job design, planning, compensation,

training, etc. More importantly, an accurate job analysis provides protection from lawsuits.

All in all, through the video, I learned why a job analysis is vital and why it should be

conducted in a manner that is accurate and specific.
