MineScape License Management Guide

MineScape Licenses
MineScape provides two licensing methods:
• server license
• nodelocked license

Server License
A MineScape license server is installed on a dedicated host machine and is accessible by all machines
where MineScape is installed. Conceptually, the MineScape license server contains a pool of licenses
available for all users.
Reason to use a server license:
• You are in a multi-user environment and your purchased licenses need to be shared across a number
of users.

Nodelocked License
A nodelocked license allows a single instance of MineScape to run on a specific machine. Nodelocked
licenses are directly tied to the hardware of the machine where the license file is located and does not
require a MineScape license server.
Reasons to use a nodelocked license:
• You are the sole user of MineScape.
• You do the majority of your work on a laptop that you take offsite frequently.
• You don’t have access to a MineScape license server.
• You are not in a networked environment.

Add License File to the License Server

MineScape license files (.lic) need to be stored under the '\licenses\Datamine\' folder of the MineScape
license server installation.
C:\Program Files\Datamine\MineScape License Server\license\datamine\

Note: To support backwards compatibility, license files generated for MineScape 5.9 and earlier need to
be placed under the '\licenses\mincom\' folder. License files generated for MineScape 5.10 through to
MineScape 6.1 need to be placed under '\licenses\abb\' folder.
If more than one license file has been generated for a machine, a copy of the new license file needs to be
placed under '\licenses\datamine\' folder. If required, the license file can be renamed. Duplication within
your license files will be correctly handled by the license system.
The following activity assumes that a MineScape license file has already been generated for the
MineScape license server.

Activity Steps

Frequently Asked Questions

Why am I unable to see licenses that were
previously available?
If you were previously able to check out licenses from your license server but are now unable to display
these licenses, it is most likely that the license server is no longer running. This issue commonly occurs on
laptops that are being used as license servers, as the license server will shut down when a laptop is put
into hibernate and sleep modes.
Note: If you are using a laptop for MineScape, and also have a license server on the laptop for your use,
contact MineScape support to change your license to a nodelocked license. This will remove the need for
a license server on your laptop and stop this issue from occurring.
To determine a resolution, the following steps should be taken:
1. Restart your license server.
2. If this does not resolve the issue, there is a problem with the license server installation.

Can I connect to a license server over a Virtual

Private Network (VPN)?
Yes, as long as the license server is available on the network you are connected to. However, depending
on the connection speed and quality, the performance of retrieving and using licenses may decrease.

Can I run MineScape on a Virtual Machine?

Only MineScape's Design File and Licence servers can be installed and run on a virtual machine.

Can I run virus scanner software and MineScape?

In the event you have a virus scanner and firewall installed on either your license server machine or on
your client machine, it will depend how secure your settings are. You may have to unblock some
executable files (.exe) on your firewall.
Do I need to unblock any executable files for the MineScape installation?
The following executable files should be added as exceptions:
C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Local\MineScape2021\app-
[versions].[build]\MineScape.DiagnosticsTool.exe
C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Local\MineScape2021\app-
[versions].[build]\MineScapeStudio.exe
C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Local\MineScape2021\app-[versions].[build]\mdserver.exe
C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Local\MineScape2021\app-[versions].[build]\serv*****.exe
C:\Program Files\Datamine\MineScape\System Services\Bin\dfserver.exe
C:\Program Files\Datamine\MineScape\System Services\Bin\MineScapeMonitorService.exe
C:\Program Files\Datamine\MineScape\Design File
Server\Bin\DesignFile.DiagnosticsTool.exe
C:\Program Files\Datamine\MineScape\Design File
Server\Bin\DesignFileMonitorService.exe

Note: You may have problems running MineScape successfully if the executables listed above are not
added as exceptions. Contact your local network administrator or support desk before attempting to
modify your firewall settings.

Can the 32-bit license server be used with the 64-

bit version of MineScape?
Yes, the 32-bit version of the license server can be used with MineScape 64-bit and vice versa.

Why is the vendor daemon crashing periodically?

This is a known issue requiring a permanent resolution from Flexera. The current workaround is to
perform the following steps.

Activity Steps
1. Open an internet browser window.
2. Enter the following address:
http://localhost:<web port>/
where <web port> refers to the Web Port value set during the MineScape License Server
installation. The default web port number is '8080'.
3. Click Administration.
4. Complete the User Name and Password fields.
5. Click Submit.
6. Click the Vendor Daemon Configuration tab.

Installation Errors
Installation
Another version of this product is already installed
The existing MineScape installation needs to be removed.

Not enough disk space

You need to make more space available on the disk where you are installing the product.

Installation is slow
• Ensure enough RAM is available on the current machine. All open applications should be closed
before running the installation.
• Anti-virus software can result in slow installation speeds and should be temporarily disabled.
Note: Contact your local network administrator or support desk before attempting to disable anti-
virus software.
• Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6.2 and the Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable are now
included with the MineScape installer. These components are automatically installed as part of the
MineScape installation process.
Note: In rare cases, Microsoft's KB2999226 update will need to be installed manually on systems
prior to Windows 10 (including Windows Server 2008/2012) before proceeding with the MineScape
and License Server installations. The absence of this update may result in the installation process
hanging for a period of time before reporting a failure to install. The update can be found at
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2999226.

Plugin Listing Problems
If you do not see a list of plugins in the Plugin Manager from a license server, check that the license
server is running.

Activity Steps
1. Click on Control Panel » Administrative Tools » Services and check the lmadmin service on the
license server.
2. If the service is not running, restart it.
3. If the service fails to restart, uninstall and re-install the MineScape License Server software. We
recommend downloading the software from the distribution portal to ensure that you have the
latest version.

Plugin Load Errors

When loading MineScape plugins, there may be instances where you receive an error and the plugin
cannot be loaded.

When a plugin fails to load, the icon is displayed next to the plugin name. To display the error
information for the failed load operation, position the mouse cursor over the icon.

License server system does not support this version of

this plugin
This error is caused because the version of MineScape running is newer than the version specified in the
license file.
When a license file is downloaded, the current maintenance end date for a customer agreement is
encoded into the license file. If an attempt is made to use a version of MineScape that is released after
this end date, the error occurs.
If your maintenance agreement has since been updated, download the license file again and replace your
current license file with the new one. If the problem persists, contact your MineScape support or sales
contact as your license file may not have been upgraded correctly.

License server system does not support this plugin

The error is caused by an incorrect server name being used when creating the license file. The server
name used for the license file must be the server name without the domain.
For example, if you have a license server MACHINE1.TESTDOMAIN on the domain TESTDOMAIN,
when generating your license only specify MACHINE1 as the host name.
Log into the MineScape Software Distribution site and generate a new license file using the correct
server name (minus the domain).

Licensed number of users already reached

This error message is displayed when all of the licenses available for a plugin have already been checked
out by other users that are using that license server. One of the other users will have to check their
license back in, so you can use it.

Plugin has expired

This error will occur if you are using an expiring license. This type of license is given for limited use
purposes.

No licenses available to borrow

This error is the same as the error described Licensed number of users already reached, except it occurs
when you are attempting to borrow a license rather than checking it out.
