Zinc oxide Zinc oxide is a mineral. Zinc oxide
topical (for the skin) is used to
treat diaper rash, minor burns,
severely chapped skin, or other
minor skin irritations. Zinc oxide
rectal suppositories are used to
treat itching, burning, irritation,
and other rectal discomfort
caused by hemorrhoids or painful
bowel movements.
Starch Starch is widely used in the
production of especially oral solid
dosage forms such as bulk
granules, tablets, and capsules as
well as cosmetic and medicated
powders. Native starch is
employed in such conventional
dosage forms as binder,
disintegrant, diluents, glidant, and
lubricants.
White petrolatum This medication is used as a
moisturizer to treat or prevent
dry, rough, scaly, itchy skin and
minor skin irritations (e.g., diaper
rash, skin burns from radiation
therapy). Emollients are
substances that soften and
moisturize the skin and decrease
itching and flaking.

1. Enumerate the advantages of paste and creams.
Advantages of paste:
-Pastes are less greasy; whereas, ointments are greasy.
-Pastes are generally applied with a spatula or are spread on lint; whereas, ointments
are simply applied on the skin.
-Pastes form a protective coating to the area where it is applied; whereas, ointments are
used as protective or emollient for the skin.
