Notes on installing and removing boards and components
Before removing any individual modules, always switch the computer off first and
! disconnect it from the mains supply and remove all cables. After the main power cable
has been disconnected, discharge the remaining voltage by pressing the power on
button.
The workplace must be designed in accordance with the guidelines of the European
Federation of Trade Unions.
Only professional quality tools must be used.
■ Switch the computer off and pull the power plug out of the mains socket.
■ Remove the cables.
■ After the main power cable has been disconnected, discharge the remaining voltage by pressing the power on button.
■ Never use sharp objects such as screwdrivers, scissors or knives as leverage to remove covers.
Boards with electrostatic sensitive devices (ESD) are marked with the label shown.
When you handle boards fitted with ESDs, you must, under all circumstances, observe the following points:
■ You must statically discharge yourself before working with boards (e.g. by touching a grounded object).
■ The equipment and tools you use must be free of static charges.
■ Remove the power plug from the mains supply before inserting or removing boards containing ESDs.
■ Always hold boards with ESDs by their edges.
■ Never touch pins or conductors on boards fitted with ESDs.

Keep in mind SB-PC-11009:

The current available EDSD (EGB) regulations must be obeyed.
It is not allowed to connect or disconnect any cables or components within a system, while the main power cable is plugged. After the main
power cable has been disconnected, please discharge the remaining voltage by pressing the power on button. After that it is save to work on the
internal components.

Removing the battery
► Close the LCD screen so that it locks into place.

► Unplug the mains adapter from the mains socket.
► Disconnect all cables connected to the notebook.
► Turn your notebook over and place it on a stable, sturdy, flat surface. If necessary, lay an anti-slip cloth on this surface to prevent
the notebook from being scratched.
► Push the locking device in the direction of the arrow (red arrow) and hold it in place.
► Push the slider in the direction of the arrow (yellow arrow) to release the battery.
► Lift up the battery (green arrow) and remove it.
Removing the FlexiBay module
Preliminary steps required:

■ Removing the battery
► Slide the ejector lever (red arrow) carefully until the module will be released.
► Pull the module out of the module bay (green arrow).
Removing the dust filter

► Lift out the dust filter (green arrow). [#38017966 DUST FILTER]
Removing the memory module(s)

► Remove the screw (yellow circle). [##901]

► Remove the RAM door (green arrow). [#38020247 COVER, RAM]
► Unlock the RAM modules by pressing the latches sidewards (yellow arrows) and remove them (red arrow).
Removing the HDD


► Remove the HDD door (green arrow). [#38020381 COVER, HDD]
► Push the HDD to the right side (yellow arrow) and remove it by pulling it out (green arrow).
Removing the hinge cover assy

► Remove the two screws (yellow circles). [##902]

► Remove the two screws (red circles). [##xxx]
► Unlock the hinge cover assy on the back of the device by using a plastic tool (yellow arrows).
► Release the hingecover from the keyboard by using a plastic tool at the shown positions (yellow arrows).
► Carefully lift out the hinge cover assy (green arrows). [#38020382 HINGE COVER]
Removing the keyboard

■ Removing the hinge cover assy
► Gently lift up the keyboard (green arrows) until the keyboard cable can be disconnected.
► Disconnect the keyboard cable (red circle).

► Remove the keyboard.
Removing the WLAN module

■ Removing the keyboard
► Disconnect the WLAN antennas from the module (red circles).

► Remove the screw from the module (yellow circle). [##909]
► Now the module is loose and can be pulled out (green arrow).
Removing the UMTS module

► Disconnect the UMTS antennas from the module (red circles).

► Remove the screw from the module (yellow circle). [##909]
► Now the module is loose and can be pulled out (green arrow).
Removing the lower assy

■ Removing the dust filter
■ Removing the RAM door
■ Removing the HDD
► Remove the fifteen screws (yellow circles). [##900]

► Lift up the lower case assy (green arrows).
Removing the Bluetooth module

■ Removing the lower assy
► Disconnect the cable of the Bluetooth module (red circle).

► Release the adhesive tape (yellow arrow).
► Carefully lift up the module which is fixed with adhesive tape on its bottom (green arrow). [#38020142 BLUETOOTH MODULE]
Removing the fan


► Disconnect the fan cable (red circle).
► Lift out the fan. [#38017984 FAN]
Removing the heat sink

■ Removing the fan
► Loose the three screws in the predefined order (yellow circles with red numbers). [##903]
► Lift out the heat sink. [#38020251 HEATSINK ASSY]
Removing the CPU

■ Removing the fan
■ Removing the heat sink
► Open the CPU lock (green arrow).

► Gently lift out the CPU.
Removing the TPM module

► Remove the TPM module (red circle). [#38020364 TPM MODULE]
Removing the DC-in connector

► Disconnect the DC-in connector cable (red circle).

► Unmount the cable out of the plastic nose and the adhesive tape (yellow arrow).
► Lift up the DC-in connector and remove it (green arrow). [#38017950 DC/IN CONNECTOR W/CABLE]
Removing the UMTS sub board

► Disconnect the DC-in connector (red circle).

► Unmount the cable out of the plastic nose and the adhesive tape (yellow arrow).
► Lift out the UMTS sub board (green arrows). [#38020369 SUB BOARD, WLAN/UMTS/MODEM/USB]
Removing the audio sub board

► Disconnect the audio sub board flexprint cable (red circle). [##195]
► Lift out the audio sub board (green arrows). [#38020370 SUB BOARD, AUDIO)
Removing the Mainboard

■ Removing the WLAN- & UMTS module
■ Removing the fan and the heatsink
■ Removing the UMTS sub board
■ Disconnecting the audio board and the Bluetooth module
► Disconnect the six cables on the upper side of the mainboard (red circles).
► Turn the device around.
► Remove the two hexagon screws (yellow circles). [#82098664 SCREW, HEXAGON]
► Lift up the mainboard on the left side (green arrows).
► Pull the mainboard to the left and remove it (yellow arrow).
Removing the application board

► Disconnect the flexprint cable of the application board (red circle).

► Turn the notebook over.
► Gently push the three plastic noses (yellow arrows).

► Lift out the application board (green arrows). [#38020371 SUB BOARD, APPLICATION BUTTONS]
Removing the scrollpad / fingerpint sensor board

■ Removing the WLAN- & UMTS module
■ Removing the fan and the heatsink
■ Removing the UMTS sub board
■ Disconnecting the audio board and the Bluetooth module
■ Removing the mainboard
► Disconnect the flexprint cable (red circle).

► Lift up the bracket (green arrow). [#3801797 BRACKET FOR SUB BOARD TP BUTTONS CLICK]
► Remove the scrollpad / fingerprint sensor board.
Removing the webcam

► Remove the two rubbers (yellow circles). [#38017979 RUBBER SCREW COVER LCD FRONT]
► Remove the two screws (yellow circles). [#907]

► Remove the webcam cover (green arrow). [#350]
► Disconnect the webcam and the microphone board cable (red circles).
► Remove the module (green circle).
Removing the LCD

► Disconnect the LCD cable (red circle).

► Disconnect the camera cable (green circle). [#38017949 CABLE, CAMERA/MICRO]
► Disconnect the UMTS & WLAN antenna cables (yellow circles).
► Remove the six screws (red circles). [##901]

► Remove the display.
Disassembling the LCD Assembly

■ Removing the LCD
► Remove the six rubbers [#38017979 RUBBER SCREW COVER LCD FRONT] and the underneath screws (yellow circles). [##907]
► Use a plastic tool to separate the LCD front frame from the LCD cover carefully. Start at the upper right corner and move clockwise
around the LCD assy (yellow arrows).
► Remove the LCD front frame. [#38020375 LCD FRONT COVER]
► Release the cables at the corners of the LCD panel (yellow arrows).
► Unmount the adhesive tapes which are fixing the calbes (red arrows).
► Lift up the LCD panel and remove it (green arrows).
► Remove the two screws on each side to unlock the metal brackets (yellow circles).
► Remove the two screws to release the hinges from the LCD back assy (yellow circles).

► Disconnect the cable of the Bluetooth module (red circle).
