One day a man was going to market with his son and his ass. They met a couple on the
way. "Why walk when you have an ass to ride?" called out the husband, "seat the boy on the
ass."
"I would like that," said the boy, "help me up father."
And the father did that willingly.
Soon they met another couple. "How shameful of you!" cried the woman, "let your father
ride, won't he be tired?" So, the boy got down and the father rode the ass. Again they marched
on.
"Poor boy", said the next person they met, "why should the lazy father ride while his son is
walking?" So, the boy got onto the ass too.
As they went on, they met some travelers. "How cruel of them!" They are up to kill the
poor ass." cried one of the travelers. Hearing this, the father and the son got down. Now they
decided to carry the ass on their shoulders. As they did so, the travelers broke into laughter. The
laughter frightened the ass. It broke free and galloped away.

One day, a poor man wanted to cut down the banyan tree in the forest. The king of the
mice was frightened so he asked the woodcutter to leave the tree standing. In result, he would
give the woodcutter a piece of gold every day. The woodcutter agreed. Every evening, the
king of the mice gave a piece of gold to the woodcutter. The gold was taken out from the
roots of the banyan tree. The woodcutter was happy and took the gold home. After a few
days, the woodcutter's wife asked him, “Where does the gold come from?” So, he replied,
“The king of the mice gives me the gold from under the roots of the tree.” “Oh, you are
stupid!” his wife said and suggested. “Why don’t you cut down the tree and take the gold all
away?” The woodcutter would do as his wife said. The following day, the woodcutter cut
down the banyan tree. Unfortunately, he did not find any gold there instead the king of the
mice had run away and crept up to the woodcutter’s house. The king of the mice took back all
the gold.

Once upon a time, when a lion was asleep, a little mouse began running up and down
upon him, this soon awoke the lion who placed his huge paw upon the mouse, and opened
his big jaws to swallow him. “Pardon, O King”, cried the little mouse “ Forgive me this

Once there was an evil wizard who dressed as a beggar. He went from house to
house asking for alms and stealing pretty girls. One day he knocked on the door of a house.
There lived a man with three beautiful daughters. The eldest daughter opened the door then
wizard hypnotized her. He took her to his house in the midst of woods. Everything was
magnificent there. First daughter had all things she wished for.
One day, wizard had to go on a journey. He left keys of all rooms to her. She
could enter every room except one, otherwise she could die. He also gave an egg she
needed to care.
After wizard left his house, daughter looked into every room and found beautiful
things. Then she was curious to know about the forbidden room. She entered that room and
found hundreds of kidnapped girls who had fallen asleep. First daughter frightened then ran
out of the room. In a hurry, she dropped the egg that turned red. Wizard came back. He
knew what had happened. Then, he dragged her into that forbidden chamber.
Next day, he went back to same house and took second daughter. But same thing
happened to her. He went back and kidnapped the youngest sister, but this girl was very
wise.
Before entering forbidden chamber, she put the egg in a cupboard. Having known that there
were many girls in that room including her sisters, she had an idea to release them. Wizard
thought that third daughter did what he said. He decided to marry her.
Before getting married, daughter asked wizard to send a full basket of gold to her
parents. In the bottom of that basket, there were her sisters covered with gold. While wizard
left his house, daughter let all girls free. She also asked those girls as well as their parents to
come to wizard’s house.
When wizard came back, those girls with their parents dragged him into that
forbidden chamber, locked the door and set fire to wizard’s house.

about their safety. And they all decided to go to the lion and find out the solution to this

his meal for the day, he will not kill any other animal among them. All the animals agreed to
this decision, and one day it was the rabbits turn to go in front of a lion. So he was sad, as he
was going to the lion’s den. He came across the old well. He looked into it. The well was
very deep and dangerous.
Then he thought and made a plan in his mind and took little longer to go to the
lion. The lion was very angry on the rabbit. The lion asked him the reason for coming late.
He acted in front of a lion and said, “Sir! I was stopped by another lion, who was claiming
himself as the king of the Jungle and he wants to meet you.” After hearing this all from the
rabbit he got angry and roared “Do you know where he lives?” The rabbit replied “yes, sir.
Please come with me.” The rabbit took the lion to that old well. He saw his reflection in the
water and mistook his reflection for another lion. He roared and there was an echo. He
thought that the other lion was roaring too and jumped into the well. That was the end of the
lion.

Once upon a time there were two brothers. They decided to start venturing from
town to town and from village to village to seek happiness. Along the way they saw an old
man with white beard heading towards them.
The old man stopped and asked the boys where they were headed. When he found
out, he told them:"I want to help you." He put his hand in his pocket and pulled out a
handful of golden coins. " Which one of you wants these?" he asked. "I want them." replied
the big brother immediately. The old man hand in his other pocket and pulled out a
precious gem, shining like the sun, and asked again,"Which one of you want to have the
gem?” "I want it," hasty answered the big brother and the old man gave him the gem.
The old man put down the sack he was carrying on his back and said:"Now who is
gonna help me bring this sack to the village?"The big brother said nothing. On the other
hand the little brother pulled up his sleeves and bended down to help him.
The old man smiled and said:"Take it with you, my boy, along with everything
that is inside." "No it's not mine." Said the little brother." Take it, take it." said the old man.
"It's my gift to you." The little brother opened the sack. And what did his eyes see? The bag
was filled with precious gemstones. He stood up to thank the old man, but he was nowhere
to be found.
