6. Remove air conditioner compressor drive belt. (Refer to Air conditioner compressor in HA group.)
1/12
7. Remove alternator drive belt. (Refer to Alternator in EE group.)
2/12
10. Remove the timing belt upper cover (A).
11. Turn the crankshaft pulley, and align its groove with timing mark "T" of the timing belt cover.
3/12
14. Remove the crankshaft position sensor target wheel (A).
4/12
If the timing belt is going reused, make an arrow indicating the turning direction to make sure
that the belt is reinstalled in the same direction as before.
Inspection
Sprocket, Tensioner
1. Check the camshaft sprocket, crankshaft sprocket and tensioner pulley for abnormal wear, cracks,
or damage. Replace as necessary.
2. Inspect the tensioner pulley for easy and smooth rotation and check for play or noise. Replace as
necessary.
Installation
1. Install the crankshaft sprocket (A).
5/12
2. Align the timing marks of the camshaft sprocket (A) and crankshaft sprocket (B) with the No. 1 piston
placed at top dead center and its compression stroke.
3. Install the timing belt tensioner (A) loosely enough for the adjuster to rotate.
4. Install the belt so as not give slack at each center of shaft. Do as following procedures when installing
timing belt.
Crankshaft sprocket (A) →camshaft sprocket (B) →timing belt auto tensioner (C).
6/12
5. Check the alignment of the timing marks on each sprocket.
6. Adjust the timing belt tension.
(1) Using a hex wrench, turn the adjuster counterclockwise to make the indicator of the arm located
at the center of the base notch.
7/12
(2) Tightening the tensioner bolt.
Tightening torque
21.6 ~ 29.4N.m (2.2 ~ 3.0kgf.m, 15.9 ~ 21.7lb-ft)
7. Turn the crankshaft two turns in the operating direction (clockwise) and check the crankshaft
sprocket and camshaft sprocket timing marks.
And check that the timing belt tensioner indicator is located in base notch or not. If it not locate within
base notch, align the belt tension again. (Refer step 6.)
8. Install the crankshaft position sensor (A).
Tightening torque:
7.8 ~ 9.8N.m (0.8 ~ 1.0kgf.m, 5.8 ~ 7.2lb-ft)
8/12
10. Install the timing belt lower cover (A).
Tightening torque:
9.8 ~ 11.8 N.m (1.0 ~ 1.2kgf.m, 7.2 ~ 8.7lb-ft)
Tightening torque:
49.0N.m (5.0kgf.m, 36.2lb -ft) + 50°
Tightening torque:
M6X20 bolts (3EA): 9.8 ~ 11.8 N.m (1.0 ~ 1.2kgf.m, 7.2 ~ 8.7lb-ft)
M6X10 bolt (1EA): 0.8 ~ 10.8N.m (0.9 ~ 1.1kgf.m, 6.5 ~ 7.9lb-ft)
9/12
13. Install the water pump pulley. (Refer to Water pump in this group)
14. Install the oil level gauge (A).
Tightening torque:
18.6 ~ 23.5 N.m (1.9 ~ 2.4kgf.m, 13.7 ~ 17.4lb-ft)
16. Install air conditioner compressor dirve belt (A). (Refer to Air conditioner compressor in HA group.)
10/12
17. Install the engine mounting bracket.
(1) Install the engine mounting bracket (A) with bolts and nut.
Tightening torque:
Nut and bolt :
49.0 ~ 63.7N.m (5.0 ~ 6.5kgf.m, 36.1 ~ 47.0lb-ft)
Tightening torque:
6.8 ~ 10.7N.m (0.7 ~ 1.1kgf.m, 5.1 ~ 7.9lb-ft)
Tightening torque:
11/12
88.8 ~ 107.9N.m (9.0 ~ 11.0kgf.m, 65.1 ~ 79.6lb-ft)
21. Install the cowl grill and the wiper motor. (Refer to Wiper motor in BE group.)
