People have known about its amazing healing properties for a long time, and the ancient
Greeks and Egyptians used it to treat infections centuries ago. But when penicillin and the
other antibiotics were developed in the first half of the 20 th century, doctors stopped using it
because they had other powerful medicines they could use. Today, however, we have
superbugs and serious problems of resistance to antibiotics, so doctors and scientists are
again searching for something new to fight bacteria like MRSA and E coli, which are very
dangerous to patients in hospitals, especially after an operation. Could this be it?
