 Candidates are required to give their answers in their own words as far as
practical.
 Attempt all questions.
 The figures in the margin indicate full marks.
 All the question carry equal marks

1. Explain the laboratory procedure and generate tabular column to determine the average RHN
value for a given specimen of ferrous (cast iron) and non-ferrous (Aluminum) material.
(Assume the experimental test readings towards the close approximation range, when major
load applied was 150 Kgf and 100 Kgf for ferrous and non-ferrous specimen respectively).
2. Determine the Brinell hardness number for a ferrous (Mild-steel) and non-ferrous (Brass)
specimen. The indenter diameter of 2.5 mm and 5.0 mm were choosen for the ferrous and non-
ferrous material. The indentation diameter of the given specimen recorded experimentally by
the microscope for the mild-steel found to be 12, 11, and 10 units scale while brass as 15, 16,
and 19 units scale respectively. Find the BHN value of mild-steel and brass specimen?
3. Differenciate between Izod test and Charpy test?
4. Determine the impact strength and impact velocity of a given material utilizing Izod Impact
Specimen? (If the experimental test results recorded as: Final reading (R2) as 46 units, radius
of the pendulum 500 mm, Wt. of the pendulum 15 Kg, and the area below the notch of the
given specimen were 8×5 mm2).
5. Draw the nature diagram explaining the stress-strain for a ductile material (mild-steel), when
subjected to tensile in nature utilizing Universal Testing Machine (UTM).

All the best!!!
