 Narrative Conventions- techniques used by the author in making meaning in the
fiction.
 Backstory- tells the events of the story that happens before.
 Point-of view- narrative convention which tells from whose perspective is the
story told.
 Feminism- create awareness to the rights of man and women. It uplifts women
goals by defining equality.
 New Historicism- deals with the cultural context during the writing of the piece
of literature.
 Emotional Appeal- used by the author to create emotional response among his
reader or audience
 Metaphor or Simile- used to create comparison to feel the connection in the
story.
 Sensory Detail- forms and creates mental images of scenes using descriptive
words.
 Persuasive Writing- should use to convinced the readers.
 Feminist Literature- often associated with literary pieces written by women that
deals with women in the society.
 Mabuti- is an ordinary public school teacher who is trying to make her students
realized the importance of studying. She always says “Mabuti”
 The title of the story speaks to the story itself. It is all about the life of a teacher
named Mabuti and how she handles the problem of a teacher and a mother to her
child.

 The Vietnamese culture presents a family have a major voice in the selection of
wives and husbands of their children, in which they are arranging through
matrimonial agents (called maidongs).
 It shows the values of respect and obedience is widely evident wherein the
daughter quietly accepts the family’s tradition and culture
 The value of the mother’s challenges is just enough given that they are following
a certain culture.
 A School Boy’s Apology by Le Than Huan
 The author describes a boy who wants to enjoy his youth and live with his dream.
A boy who is hoping to see what future wait for him.
 The persona in the poem had been through traumatic experience and its hunting
him. He is apologizing for the reason that this trauma might sometimes get out of
hand.
 The character in the story also described the chaos happening inside his mind
during the class. His thoughts reflected that of being lost and hopeless in the
middle of the war.

 Phan Nien Hao- born in Kantum Vietnam in 1967. Author of two collections of
poem in Vietnamese
 Submarines- watercraft vehicle that can operate under the sea.
 The lives of the crew inside submarine were described as really tough as they are
confined in a space and their lives are at stake as they are not sure of what they
will encounter deep in the ocean.
 Someone mentioned in the poem is the captain of the submarine which represents
God.
 We are all living with uncertainty of what future holds us.

- It also helps to determine how we handle stress, relate to
others, and make choices. It is important at every stage of life,
from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.
 Mental health is very important because it impacts our thoughts, behaviors and
how we react to certain emotions.
 Ma Thaw, Daw Pan U, as well as U Po Sein were all fed up with their lives.
 Ma Thaw being fed up with the awkward relationship between her parents, who
act as strangers even though living in the same roof.
 U Po Sein was fed up as well because of the thoughts of him having to live with
his ungrateful wife as he describes her.
 Daw Pan U was also fed up with staying in a house where U Po Sein lives. It
drains her and she hate to grow bigger as time passed by.
 They all have to live in hate and never with peace of mid. There was never a time
that they are given a chance to spill out their thought mainly because of their egos.

 The culture of Brunei that are shown in the fiction are how they value their works.

 Life is beautiful but we have to be prepared to deal with trials and difficulties,
which can help us be successful.

 Hardships, trials, problems are just a reminder of how success and happiness can
be tricky and thus, not to feel displeased and discourages but rather remember that
these hardships are just temporary.

 The citizens of Brunei are like Filipinos because of their hospitality that will make
you feel loved and accepted.
 The monikers fit Brunei as it is also known as the Nation of Brunei, The Adobe of
Peace, might find itself hard-pressed to retain the moniker with its foray into such
as draconian legal system.
