Chapter 6: When I’m reading, I look for words that stand out so I can know where the most

important
ideas of the article are. I take notes from information I think will be useful later in the article. I don’t take
breaks from my readings because that would break my focus. When I don’t understand something, I
copy and paste it into the search bar and try to find a forum that explains other people’s opinions on it. I
can read for probably 1-2 hours with full concentration. On this article I skimmed around more, skipping
a few sentences at a time. I believe reading most if not the entire article is an important step, and taking
notes on the critical ideas presented.

The Joy of Reading and Writing 1: I don’t quite understand the paragraphs to family’s comparison, I
don’t understand why he called himself arrogant.

The Joy of Reading and Writing 2: Alexie states that he is lucky because he has something the other
native kids didn’t have, confidence in one’s ability. He didn’t want to be seen as another stupid native so
he participated in class and defied what was expected of him.

The Joy of Reading and Writing 3: Alexie thinks reading saved his life because it showed him a world he
didn’t know existed as of yet. A world where limitations don’t exist. Most people don’t know of that
world. That’s why he is going back to Native reservations and about novels, short stories, and poetry, so
he can show them the world of literature.
