BUILDING CONSTRUCTION-V
Time: 3 hours Max. Marks: 50

Answer a total of five questions,


attempting a minimum of two questions from each section
All questions carry equal marks
Assume any suitable data further required

SECTION-A (Theory)
1. What are the different causes of decay and damage in old buildings?

2. What are the different types of cracks in brick work? Explain with neat
sketches.

3. Write short notes on:

a) Factors reducing the strength of timber


b) Moisture content
c) Timber treatment prior to installation

4. Discuss the causes and types of failures in concrete structures and suggest
method and techniques in detail for repairing the same.

Section – B (Drawing)
5. With the help of neat drawings, explain the methods of under pinning.
Assume suitable scale.

6. Explain methods to repair along with suitable drawing:


a) Sinking foundations
b) Leaking terraces

7. Explain with sketches/drawings any two D.P.C treatments to the building for
the following:
a) Walls
b) Floors
c) Foundations

8. Flooring of a toilet block in a school building is heavily damaged due to water


logging and wet walls. With the help of neat drawings, explain methods you
propose to carry out repair works.
a) Strengthening of walls and D.P.C
b) Replacement and water proofing of tiled floors
