I have always found that believing in oneself is more significant than believing in other people's

opinions. We should speak openly about what we believe is true. Emerson tells us to believe in

what is true in our hearts as most times, and we get afraid to speak up and find ourselves. I agree

with him, as the fear of retribution and criticism keeps many of us from expressing ourselves

openly. To avoid hurting anyone's feelings or causing misunderstandings, we take great care in

how we say things. People also assume they have nothing of value to contribute. We tend to

experience flashes of genius in our creative pursuits, but our concerns prevent us from ever

trying. We allow our imaginations to be the most significant hurdle in our creative attempts.

When we are brave enough to do what we believe is accurate, we find others to agree with our

opinion but keep silent, hoping a person brave enough would express their opinion first to see if

what they hold inside is acceptable or rational. We must not hold back our opinions. The more

we learn about our ignorance and misunderstandings, the better off we will be. For better or for

worse, knowing that our beliefs were incorrect will allow us to work toward being better thinkers

and more well-rounded people.
