A. FAMILY STRUCTURE, CHARACTERISTICS AND DYNAMICS

Family C is a nuclear family that is composed of 4 members. R.C, 51 years old is the head of the family.
He is married to J.C. and she is also 51 years old. They have 2 daughters both are female and is residing with
them in Barangay Loakan Proper, Baguio City. When it comes with decision making about expenses, health and
community involvement, the wife has the most authority but within the education, the children decided on their
own.

B. SOCIO-ECONOMIC AND CULTURAL CHARACTERISTICS

Mr. R.C. is the main provider of the family. He is currently working as a jeepney driver. His monthly
salary is ranging at 5,000-8,000 pesos. His wife, Mrs. J.C. is a freelancer at this moment and has a salary of Php
6,000- Php 8,000 per month. The highest educational attainment of Mr. R.C. is high school graduate and his wife
graduated in college. The family’s religion is Jehova’s Witnesses and their primary dialect is Ilocano and
Tagalog. The family is self-employed. Further, they are not engaged in the food production in their house because
they don’t have enough space to do so.

C. HOME AND ENVIRONMENT

The family owned a residential lot with their house on it. Their house is built on concrete with galvanized
roofing. Utilities are also available so they have their electrical connections and cellphones. They also have
appliances such as TV, gas burner, refrigerator, radio, and others. Their utensils are kept in cabinets and foods are
stored in the refrigerator. They have access to safe drinking water within 250 meters; it is always being delivered
in their house. Their water source is piped distribution and communal faucet and they are storing their water with
a covered container. Further, the family is also treating their water by chlorination and boiling. The water
disposal method in their area is a blind drainage. Moreover, the garbage collection is an open receptacle, and
disposal is done by garbage collection once a week. They also have a domestic cats and dogs.
D. HEALTH STATUS OF EACH MEMBER

The general health status of the family indicates some minor health risks. One of the daughters of Mr.
R.C. has inactive Tuberculosis and was attended by a specialist; she is under treatment for 6 months, taking drugs
specifically anti-tuberculosis. Further, there are no recorded deaths in the family due to preventable disease. Both
of the parents of Family C has a Phil health but Mr. R.C. is inactive-independent and Mrs. J.C. is active-
independent member.

E. VALUES AND PRACTICES ON HEALTH PROMOTION/ MAINTENANCE


AND DISEASE PREVENTION

Mr. R.C. and wife are not practicing family method in the present because Mrs. J.C.is already menopause.
Further, one of their family members, her daughter is availing health care. Sometimes there is a delay on seeking
and receiving appropriate care because of the reasons like having financial problems and pandemic reasons. The
health services where they frequently avail is on the public hospital and secondly is at a private clinic. Their
health worker preference during an illness is of course, a doctor and a nurse. If there is an unexpected illness or
diseases the interventions they are doing is self-medication like drinking paracetamol or biogesic when having a
fever. They also consult RHM and nurses. Another is when the condition is getting worse; they will immediately
go to the hospital.
