BASF has a wide range of products for both interior and exterior wood
coatings formulations. There are challenges in terms of performance and
handling and usually there is a trade-off when choosing a certain technology.

Joncryl® RC emulsions are surfactant-free. This is based on a fine particle size high clarity and gloss

Flexibility and application ease

Joncryl® and Luhydran® products have the balance between the right
durability and application properties. A coating needs to have the
combination of ingredients to offer both resistance properties and durability
versus application properties, for example, drying and good stackability.

At BASF we are always striving to push our products to the Transfer on high-speed lines

shear rates. The benefits are excellent flow, leveling and ease of
paint manufacturing. In general, RC emulsions offer good
freeze-thaw, pH-induced viscosity stability and solvent-shock
resistance, resulting in higher production efficiency.

Interior wood coatings line

The interior wood market is very diverse. It includes segments such as

assembled contemporary furniture, assembled reproduction or antique
furniture, kitchen and bathroom cabinets, and also includes self-assembled
furniture (flatstock) for living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens and bathrooms,
office furniture and flooring. Due to local preferences coating requirements
vary enormously across countries.

Flooring

The other large wood coating segment is flooring, including parquet or solid
wood flooring. The principal amount of flooring coatings is “factory-applied”
to wood, parquet or engineered wood flooring by the flooring manufacturer.

Flooring market Flooring performance overview

For the “factory-applied” coatings there is a high throughput high high high high high high
required and thus the requirement for fast drying. The other
application method is the “on-site” coating of wooden flooring,
either for refurbishment of existing floors or for new flooring.
This is usually done by a professional contractor. The coating
formulation depends on the type of wood and the required
gloss levels; mechanical resistance (abrasion and scratch) is
usually also a requirement.
BASF has developed three technologies which offer you the
choice according to your specific requirements of either using
the products in 1K or 2K systems.
