Introduction 1
1.1 Security information
Siemens provides products and solutions with industrial security functions that support the
secure operation of plants, systems, machines and networks.
In order to protect plants, systems, machines and networks against cyber threats, it is
necessary to implement – and continuously maintain – a holistic, state-of-the-art industrial
security concept. Siemens’ products and solutions constitute one element of such a concept.
Customers are responsible for preventing unauthorized access to their plants, systems,
machines and networks. Such systems, machines and components should only be
connected to an enterprise network or the internet if and to the extent such a connection is
necessary and only when appropriate security measures (e.g. firewalls and/or network
segmentation) are in place.
For additional information on industrial security measures that may be implemented, please
visit
https://www.siemens.com/industrialsecurity.
Siemens’ products and solutions undergo continuous development to make them more
secure. Siemens strongly recommends that product updates are applied as soon as they are
available and that the latest product versions are used. Use of product versions that are no
longer supported, and failure to apply the latest updates may increase customer’s exposure
to cyber threats.
To stay informed about product updates, subscribe to the Siemens Industrial Security RSS
Feed under
https://www.siemens.com/industrialsecurity.

Introduction
1.6 Handling the driver generator

1.6 Handling the driver generator

The "Generate Module Drivers" function is available for signal processing in PCS 7. Once
the hardware has been configured in HW Config and the technological functions have been
configured in the CFC, this function automatically generates, interconnects, and
parameterizes the required module drivers. These module drivers are responsible for
diagnosing and reporting errors during signal processing.
The Setup program installs XML files for the connection between the 3RW44 soft starter and
the driver generator.

Supported modules and configurations

The driver concept for the 3RW44 soft starter includes operation of the soft starter:
● As a DP slave directly on the DP master system.
The connection is made by means of Softstarter OM, GSD file or by an EDD object.
● As a DP slave following a Y link
DPV1 or DPV0 is possible depending on the version of the communication module used.
The connection has to made by means of the GSD file.

More information
Additional information regarding GSD files is available in the "SIRIUS 3RW44 Soft Starter"
System Manual > Chapter "Configuration with the GSD File".
GSD, GSDML & EDD files for Soft Starter can be found in the internet. Please follow this
link: http://support.industry.siemens.com and search for
● Soft Starter GSD or
● Soft Starter EDD

Purpose of the driver generator

A signal-processing block is inserted in the CFC for each soft starter, and the connection to
the hardware is established using symbolic addressing. You can retrieve this address from
HW Config of SIMATIC Manager. For detailed information on this, refer to the online help in
"Getting Started".
The "Generate Module Driver" option inserts the additionally required OB_DIAG1 and
SS_DIAG blocks and then connects and assigns the corresponding parameters.

3.2 Error numbers

3.2 Error numbers

Overview
The SIMOCODE pro PCS 7 Library blocks have an output parameter ErrorNum that can be
used to output internal error states of the block as error numbers. Each error number is
assigned to a specific error. The routine always displays the error number of the error most
recently detected in a block cycle.

3.3 Quality codes

3.3 Quality codes

The process values of the function blocks are generated and transferred along with a signal
status as a structured variable. This contains a statement about the signal quality. The
function blocks determine the appropriate signal status for their process outputs depending
on the signal status of the process inputs. The signal status is formed from the input
parameters according to the priority table below (highest priority is 0). This group status is
displayed in the status bar of the faceplate and of the block icon. The signal status is
displayed for each individual parameter in the faceplate next to the process values.

3.4.5.2 Slave diagnostics of the 3RW44

The following system function and diagnostic interrupt calls read the diagnostic information
of the 3RW44 slave.

Block Description
SFC 13 DPNRM_DG Reads the diagnostic data of the PROFIBUS DP slave
SFB 52 RDREC If diagnostic interrupt 82 occurs, this block reads a process
data set.

Diagnostic messages that relate to communication and operation are read

● Acyclically when ReadData operation is triggered either from SS_DIR or SS_MEAS
blocks.
● If interrupt OB 82 occurs.
This diagnostic information is mapped onto the QDIAG_DIR and QDIAG_MEAS output
parameters. These parameters are interconnected with the SS_DIR and SS_MEAS blocks.
The information from the station diagnostics of the PROFIBUS DP slave is read out using
SFC 13 DPNRM_DG.

Assigning rated operational current

Parameterize the rated operational current of the soft starter in HW Config and in the block
parameters.
Call the following in HW Config:
1. Double-click to open the "Properties DP slave" dialog
2. Click "Parameterize". Set the parameters **), e.g., rated operational current
3. Click "OK". This completes the configuration.
Set input parameter PSx_IRATE as the rated operational current of the device.
"X" stands for 1, 2, or 3 based on the active parameter set.

Note
DPV0 in DP alarm mode
If the device is configured as DPV0 in DP alarm mode in HW Config, these parameters will
not be written to the soft starter.

Parameter sets
The three parameter sets PS1, PS2, and PS3 have been parameterized to specify the basic
parameters, such as:
● Rated operational current
● Velocity
● Torque
● Control functions:
– Startup mode
– Coast-down mode
– Current limits
– ...

3.5.5 Operating modes

Operating mode LOCAL/REMOTE

Enabling switching between LOCAL and Remote control operations is not possible using the
library. Other software tools (Soft Starter ES, PDM, ...) have to be used for it. The process
image input 0.0 indicates whether the starter is running in REMOTE or LOCAL mode.
The specified operating mode is displayed at the QREMOTE output.
1 = Remote
0 = Manual operation LOCAL/Soft Starter ES
The device is controlled either locally or via other software tools (Soft Starter ES, PDM, ...).
When in the local mode, the following operations are available, such as:
● Motor CW
● Motor CCW

Note
Slow speed must be enabled in order for the Motor CCW operation to be active.

● Trip reset
● Emergency start
● Slow speed
● Output 1
● Output 2
● Disable Quick Stop
The same information is monitored in the faceplate views.
In Manual operation LOCAL mode, the OUT_01 output of the function block monitors the
process image output (PIQ; byte 1 and byte 2). This ensures that the status of the control
output does not change while the CPU switches back to Remote mode.
In Manual operation LOCAL mode, parameterize the parameter sets with Soft Starter ES or
directly in the hardware of the soft starter. These parameters are synchronized with the
parameters of the function block. This ensures that the status of the parameterized values
does not change while the CPU switches back to Remote mode.
The monitoring function does not monitor in Manual operation LOCAL mode.

3.5.6.3 Monitoring

QMON_ERR, TIME_MON
This function monitors the consistency between the control command and the feedback
signal of the parameter within the specified TIME_MON monitoring time. Each discrepancy is
indicated with monitoring error QMON_ERR.

Table 3- 24 Parameters of control commands with the assigned PIQ and PII bits

Parameter of control Assigned PIQ bits 1) Assigned PII bits 2) Description

commands
QMOT_CW = 1 PIQ 0.0 PII 0.1 Each discrepancy is indicated with
monitoring error QMON_ERR. …
QMOT_CCW = 1 3) PIQ 0.1 PII 0.1 Each discrepancy is indicated with
monitoring error QMON_ERR. …

1) PIQ = Process image output

2) PII = Process image input, feedback parameters
3) For Motor CCW, the slow speed function must be enabled:
SLSPD_LI = 1 in Auto mode and PIQ 0.6 = 1

The MONITOR parameter indicates whether the monitoring function is enabled or disabled:
MONITOR = 1 enables the monitoring function.
MONITOR = 0 disables the monitoring function.
If the feedback signal of the process image input changes, the monitoring function performs
another check to determine whether a discrepancy exists between the feedback signal and
the process image output. Once the specified monitoring time elapses, any discrepancy is
indicated with monitoring error QMON_ERR.
If the block is in the LOCAL mode, monitoring errors are not checked. The process image
outputs 0.0 and 0.1 monitor the feedback signal of the process image input 0.1. This
prevents a bump from occurring when the operating mode is changed from LOCAL to Auto
or Manual mode.
The monitoring time is specified in seconds. If the monitoring time is less than the sampling
time, the monitoring time will be calibrated to the sampling time.

3.5.6.4 Trip reset

Purpose and trigger of trip reset

Trip reset acknowledges all errors currently pending in the starter that require
acknowledgement. An error can be acknowledged once it has been resolved or if it no longer
exists.
Trip reset can be triggered as follows:
● Locally on the device
● By actuating TRPRST_OP in the Standard View (command reset), if this view has been
enabled for the Trip reset function:
TRPRSTOP_EN = 1
● By the TRPRST_LI link parameter. This is a signal with rising edge.
This sets the process image output DP bit 0.3.
Output parameter QTRPRSTOP indicates whether the Trip reset function is enabled for the
operator.

3.5.6.5 Slow speed

Purpose
This function allows you to temporarily operate an asynchronous motor in both directions of
rotation at a speed that is less than the rated speed.
The slow speed factor and the slow torque can be entered individually for both directions of
rotation in the Parameters View.
Various parameters are used in the different operating modes to set the slow speed.

3.5.6.6 Emergency start

Purpose and trigger of emergency start

The emergency start enables a restart in spite of an internal shutdown command.
The emergency start function can be triggered as follows:
● By enabling emergency startEMRGST_OP in the Maintenance View, if this view is
enabled on the operator side for the emergency start function:
EMSTOP_EN = 1
● By the EMRGST_LI link parameter, which is a signal with a rising edge
This sets the process image output DP bit 0.4.
Output parameter QEMSTOP indicates whether the emergency start function is enabled for
the operator.

3.5.6.7 Lock

LOCK, LOCK_ON
The LOCK and LOCK_ON functions are only available in Remote operating mode. An active
lock input prevents switching and disables control commands. LOCK always overwrites
LOCK_ON.
LOCK = 1: LOCK is set to OFF
The control commands are set in order to stop the motor.
QMOT_CW = 0
QMOT_CCW = 0
LOCK_ON = 1: LOCK is set to ON
LOCK_DIR = 0: Motor CW
LOCK_DIR = 1: Motor CCW
The control commands are set in order to start the motor based on the values set in
LOCK_ON and LOCK_DIR:
QMOT_CW = 1
QMOT_CCW = 1

control commands are disabled:
● MOTCW_OP
● MOTCW_LI
● MOTCCW_LI
The Standard View displays the "padlock" symbol to indicate whether the LOCK and
LOCK_ON functions are set.

Note
If slow speed has not been selected and LOCK_ON, LOCK_DIR command has been
initiated with CCW direction, an error number is generated as ERRORNUM. This status is
displayed in the Standard view in the faceplate as LOCK blinking in the status field.

3.5.6.12 Operator authorizations

Operator authorizations
The enable parameters allow the operator to issue the desired commands. These
commands are interconnected to the corresponding outputs. This permits operation to be
enabled from the Standard View of the faceplate.
Example:
If the block is in Manual mode and AUTOP_EN = 0, the operator must not change the
operating mode of the block to Auto. He must not change the operating mode from the
Standard View of the faceplate or in the CFC. QAUTOP = FALSE is set in this process.
In a similar manner, every _EN parameter enables the corresponding operation.

Authorization ON Authorization OFF Description of _EN parameter Name of related

3.5.6.16 Substitute value

SUB_VALUE
The operator parameterizes the substitute value. The SUB_VALUE parameter is 2 bytes
long. The data contained are written to the soft starter via data set 131. If the Response to
CPU/master stop event occurs, the soft starter is switched to the substitute value
parameterized in SUB_VALUE or it retains the last value.
This activation is parameterized at the START_OFF parameter:

START_OFF = 1: Switch substitute value

START_OFF = 0: Retain the last value
The SUB_VALUE parameter can only be written to the OUT_01 output of the block, if
START_OFF = 0:
● While a warm restart is performed on the CPU
● A rack error is detected
● A module error is detected

3.5.6.17 Active parameter sets

PS_SETACT
The process images of output bit PIQ 1.2 and PIQ 1.3 correspond to the settings that the
operator makes for the active parameter sets. These are based on the parameterization of
parameter PS_SETACT = 1, 2, or 3. The digits 1, 2, and 3 refer to the corresponding
parameter sets 1, 2, and 3.

PS_SETACT = 1 (Standard)
PIQ DP 1.2 = FALSE
PIQ DP 1.3 = FALSE

PS_SETACT = 2 (Standard)
PIQ DP 1.2 = TRUE
PIQ DP 1.3 = FALSE

10 151 R/W 138 Technology parameter 2: Set 3
11 152 R/W 64 Technology parameter 3: Set 3

"R" = Read access; "W" = Write access

These data sets are based on the read authorization and/or write authorization. The
RDREC function is used to read the values and the WRREC function is used to write the
setting in the soft starter.
The Q_ENRDWR parameter indicates: The read function or write function is being executed.

Read function
Data sets are read with the following parameters:

RD_DATA = 1 : Operating parameters for reading values

L_RD_DATA = 1 : Linkable parameters for reading values.
EN_RDWR = 1
QERR_RD = 1 : Error when reading data sets.
The WRREC write function is supported in this case.

Write function
The WRREC function writes all values changed by the user to the device.
QERR_WR = 1 indicates errors when writing a data set.

3.5.6.19 Enabling measurement and statistics

EN_MEAS, EN_STAT
A logical value "1" in the EN_MEAS and EN_STAT parameters activates the link for opening
the faceplates for the measurement block and the statistics block.

Faceplate for the EN_MEAS parameter

The user configures the faceplate that is opened with the EN_MEAS parameter in:
S7_string_1:='SSMEAS'
SSMEAS stands for the name of a function block of type SS_MEAS.

Faceplate for the EN_STAT parameter

The user configures the faceplate that is opened with the EN_STAT parameter in:
S7_string_1:=SSSTAT'
SSSTAT stands for the name of a function block of type SS_STAT.

Note
Configure the SS_MEAS function block for measurement and the SS_STAT function block
for statistics in the same CFC as the SS_DIR block.

Module drivers of the soft starter 4
4.1 Object lists and action lists
Hardware modules, among other things, are configured in HW Config.

Description
The object lists and the action lists are used to generate the module drivers for these
hardware modules.
The object list contains a unique object identification number for each of these hardware
modules. Each object list is assigned to a particular hardware configuration.
The action list contains a list of actions. These actions must be executed for the object
identification numbers that appear in the object list Examples of such actions include:
● Assigning the device address
● Interconnecting the input and output parameters of the driver block
The "Generate Module Driver" function generates the module drivers when the CFC is
compiled.

Description
The Maintenance Station is a node in the network control. It displays the status of all devices
that are configured in the network. The Maintenance Station is primarily connected to the
Plant Asset Management System.
The Maintenance Station supports the following basic functions:
● Collecting online information:
– For evaluation of the system
– For evaluation of the status of components
– For evaluation of system errors
● Decisions regarding service activities, such as
– Customer service for system
– Inspection
– Maintenance
– Eliminating faults
● Maintenance request and status management
The "Generate Module Driver" function generates the module drivers when the CFC is
compiled.
The softstarter device is equipped with the following driver blocks:
● RACK
● OB_DIAG1
● MOD_SWT
● SS_DIAG
The type of driver block depends on the configuration.
These blocks function as an interface for writing the status of service activities to the
Maintenance Station.

CFC charts for 3RW44 soft starter 6
Description
The CFC charts are a ready-made reference for using blocks from the block library. They
reduce the engineering effort required to configure the various blocks that support the proper
functioning of the signal blocks.
The charts are available in the block library under:
"PCS7 SS Library V8.0 SP4 > Blocks+Templates\Templates > SoftStarter"
Generate instances of the charts stored in the block library for incorporation in the CFC
charts. These are stored in the "Templates" directory of the SIMATIC project S7_program.

Figure 6-1 Path of directory where the CFC charts are stored

Soft Starter CFC chart

The "Soft Starter" CFC chart contains one instance each of the following blocks:
● SS_DIR
● SS_MEAS
● SS_STAT
Use this CFC chart for the following:
● For operating
● For measuring
● For providing statistical information on the 3RW44 soft starter

The parameters have a textual interconnection that mentions the parameters to be

interconnected.
The following parameters must be assigned:
● IN_01 = Logical address of the starter block.

Figure 6-2 "Soft Starter" CFC chart

Note:
To facilitate the symbolic interconnection of the block inputs and outputs IN_01 and OUT_01
with the inputs and outputs of the device, symbols can be created in the symbol table.
You can find the symbol table in the HW Config Options > Symbol Table.
The inputs and outputs for the device are created here. Since the addresses are available in
BYTE, and the blocks are interconnected with WORD, the data type must be stored
accordingly in the symbol table.

In this example, the symbols In01 and Out01 are assigned for the addresses IW 2 and QW 2
in data type WORD.
The suitable symbol can now be selected when interconnecting.
