Clemson University vs.

USC
Thomas Green Clemson was a man from Philadelphia. He married the daughter a John C.
Calhoun and settled down on the family plantation in South Carolina. He had been in support of an
agricultural college within the state and left his fortune to the state to make an agricultural college.
Many South Carolinians did not want the opening of an agriculture and military college and fought
against the opening of Clemson University. “Initially an all-male, all-white military school, Clemson
Agricultural College opened in July 1893” ( https://www.clemson.edu/about/history/ ).

There are around “110 graduate degree programs” ( https://www.clemson.edu/academics/ )

that seem to revolve around finances, engineering, and environmental studies. The total cost of living
expenses is $14,458 compared to USC, which is around $18,600, may attract students for a cheaper
living expense. The acceptance rate is around 50.5% which is a little bit over half so that could attract
students that want a higher chance of getting accepted. The graduation rate in 2015-16 was 82.3%
which is high compared to the national graduation rate of around 60% which could appeal to students.

I do not find an interest in football. I would prefer to do other stuff on my Saturday nights than
what people throw around a ball for a few hours. The reason I do support Clemson in the rivalry though
is because of their majors. I am interested in being a civil engineer, so I therefore support the college
with a good engineering program. The Daily Gamecock made the statement, “all you’re gonna be is
bunch of rock-worshiping cultists who’ll finish second to Alabama.” Which sums up the rivalry because
both teams absolutely bash each other and they think the best way to settle it is sports. Neither sides
have looked at it from an academic standpoint. The average GPA at USC is 3.73 and the average at
Clemson is 4.18 which concludes that Clemson is the academically better school.
