Conclusion

1.    Why are flat roofs common on larger commercial buildings?

They cost less to build and maintain, they are easier to inspect, and they increase the usable space of
the building.

2.    Why are the standard pitched roof treatments not acceptable for a low-slope roof?
Because the water affects low pitched roofs differently. The different treatments also allow new design
systems such as green roofs to be built on the low slope.

3.    Why are the typical low-slope roof surfaces not appropriate when public access is planned?
They cannot support the added weight.

4.     What factors are important to consider when designing a green roof?
The weight, water movement, how the plants will grow out on the roof.

5.    What advantages do green roofs provide over standard low-slope roof treatments?
They restrict the amount of runoff that the building will cause, they give back to the environment, and
they are aesthetically pleasing.
