The symmetry, fractals, and spiral are some pattern and regularities in the world.
Symmetry have many kinds and the most important ones are reflections, rotations, and
translations. Reflection symmetry, sometimes called line symmetry or mirror symmetry, captures
symmetries when the left half of a pattern is the same as the right half. Rotations, also known as
rotational symmetry, captures symmetries when it still looks the same after some rotation (of less
than one full turn). Translational symmetry exists in patterns that we see in nature and in man-
made objects. Translations acquire symmetries when units are repeated and turn out having
identical figures, like the bees’ honeycomb with hexagonal tiles. Fractals are infinitely complex
patterns that are self-similar across different scales. It is also known as geometric figure example
of this pattern is thunder. Spiral is a curved pattern shapes that revolve around it. Spirals appear
in many plants such as pine cones, pineapples, and sunflowers.
Mathematics is important, through math we can predict the behavior and phenomena in
our world. By observing the pattern and regularities we can have a clue on what will going to
happen. For example, the position of the sun and the moon relative to the earth can predict high
tide and low tide events affecting human activities especially fisherman. Mathematics are not just
for adding and subtracting numbers but it also allows us in solving many problems which is in
the process of enhancing our critical thinking. Mathematics is said to be a tool in conducting
researches, making medicine, and many more. I think without mathematics we can’t have
harmonious and long life.
Mathematics, being a broad and deep discipline, deals with the logic of shape, quantity,
and arrangement. Once, it was perceived merely as collective thoughts dealing with counting
numbers, but it is now being understood as a universal language dealing with symbols, arts,
equations, geometric shapes and patterns. It is asserting that mathematics is a powerful tool in
decision-making and it is a way of life. We use mathematics in our daily tasks and activities. It
is an important tool in the field of sciences, humanities, literature, medicine, and even in music
and arts; it is in the rhythm of our daily activities, operational in our communities, and a default
system of our culture.
For me math is my everything, through this year my favorite subject is math and I think it
will never change. I remember when I was in my elementary days the only subject, I listened to
is math. Math is the only subject I excel with to the extent that my teacher gives me an
opportunity to teach my lower year back in high school. I really value mathematics, because it
helps me enhance my critical thinking which is very helpful for me as a chess player in our
school.
