Activity Guide and Evaluation Rubric - Task 1 - English Level Test


1. Activity Description

Type of activity: Independent

With this activity, you are expected to achieve the following learning
outcomes:
- answer different questions in a variety of topics according to the CEFR level B2.
- read any text in which the writer adopts particular grammar structures and
vocabulary through different tasks according to the CEFR level B2.
- write clear, detailed texts on a wide range of subjects through different writing
exercises according to the CEFR level B2.
- understand the main idea(s) of general audios on concrete and abstract topics,
including technical discussions through lectures and conversations featured in
an upper intermediate level.
The activity consists of:
Step 1
- Participate in the Social Interaction forum found under the tab Course General
Forum in the Initial Environment. Be sure to read the Course Director’s
welcoming message.
- Go to the discussion forum for the task and get familiar with your collaborative
group. Your active participation in the forums will give you many opportunities
to practice the language.
Step 2
- Go to https://www.efset.org/, click on Log In and create your EF account. Be
sure to use your institutional e-mail to create your account so that your Real
Name will be shown on it. Avoid using other e-mail accounts as to avoid
nicknames on your certificate.
- Click on Test your English now, and then click on Get your EF SET Certificate.
You need 50 minutes to complete this test. Verify your internet connection and
sound before starting.

- Once you are finish taking the test, copy the View Certificate URL to place in
the document you will send for evaluation.

- You also need to share your result on Twitter by tagging your tutor’s Twitter
account and wait for a like. Once you receive the like, take a screenshot.
Step 3
- After taking the test and sharing the results, scroll down and test your fluency
and pronunciation in 5 minutes by clicking on the icon Speech Test. You need
to authorize the microphone before doing this part. Take a screenshot of your
speech test results to be sent for evaluation.
Step 4
- Write a 5-paragraph essay about your English Learning Journey. Explain why
improving your English is important to you personally. What do you like best
about learning English and what do you find most difficult? Your 5-paragraph
essay must include an introduction paragraph, 3 body paragraphs and the
conclusion paragraph. You can use the next table to write your tentative thesis
statement and three topic sentences that you could use for your paragraphs.

- Share your 5-paragraph essay in the forum:
Your thesis statement goes here introducing the topic or the main idea of
your essay, in this case your English Learning Journey. Then, you will write
your first reason. After that, you will write your second reason. Thirdly, you will
write your most important reason. Finally, you will conclude your introductory
paragraph by writing a catchy sentence.

In this first body paragraph you will write your first topic sentence. It has
the same structure as the essay: topic sentence, reason 1, example 1, reason
2, example 2, reason 3, example 3 and conclusion sentence restating the main
idea.
In this second body paragraph you will write your second topic sentence. It
has the same structure as the essay: topic sentence, reason 1, example 1,
reason 2, example 2, reason 3, example 3 and conclusion sentence restating
the main idea.
In this third body paragraph you will write your third topic sentence. It has
the same structure as the essay: topic sentence, reason 1, example 1, reason
2, example 2, reason 3, example 3 and conclusion sentence restating the main
idea.
Finally, you will need to write your conclusion paragraph. In this case, it
would have a similar organization as your introduction, carefully restating the
thesis statement using different words. You must also leave a take-away
message here.

- Upload a PDF file. Identify your file as follows: 518011 - Task 1 - Your Full

For the development of the activity consider that:
In the Initial Information Environment, you must:
- Check the Course Agenda to organize your time.
- Check all available forums, introduce yourself in the General Forum.
- Verify the dates of the Web Conferences so that you can plan your participation
accordingly.
- Verify your tutors’ synchronous attention by Skype.
In the Learning Environment, you must:
- Download the Syllabus of the course to read.
- Go to the discussion forum for the task and get familiar with your collaborative
group.
- Participate in the forum to get feedback from e-mates and tutor.
In the Evaluation Environment, you must:

with the spelling rules and presentation conditions defined in this activity guide.
Regarding the use of references, consider that the product of this activity must
comply with APA style.
In any case, make sure you comply with the rules and avoid academic plagiarism.
You can review your written products using the Turnitin tool found in the virtual
campus.
